If your asking if God killed people back in the old test for disobeying him then yup he did. He destroyed nations of people including women and children because they did evil and worshipped other Gods. Our God is a jealous God and no god be put before him. He is still the same God as then but Jesus came and he gave his son to die for us.
Ok you win, I am going to go play golf for three days in Northern Michigan, where I may say the mans name in vain and check out the beer cart girl, I'll take by stoning when I get home
Look...your personal religious beliefs mean absolutely nothing here. Sorry. They just don't. If a church wishes to marry a gay couple, now they can, and the state will recognize that marriage in all 50 states. If a church does not want to marry a gay couple, they do not have to. So this does not affect the people that do not "agree" with gay marriage. There really is not point in arguing any of this. I'll listen to arguments on how they came to this conclusion because I agree, its a bit hokey how they came up with the ruling, but the result should not be debated as nothing other than a good thing.
Its funny how people that pick out the bible always resort to the old test. because they think it was all doom and gloom. Completely forget that there is a Jesus in the same book. Skip over all kind of other scripture just to find some where God is destroying people because they are evil. But if you don't understand God then you simply cant understand the bible. So no use getting upset bout it. lol
So should I delay my bus ticket to be stoned for 3 days, or can I be stoned while checking out the beer cart girl with you?
Maybe, maybe not. People older than I tell me that it really wasn't very long ago that someone suggesting that someday guys would be permitted to marry other guys would have been laughed out of the bar. Still, the Supremes can't force anyone to marry someone of the same sex. In fact, they can't force anyone to marry period. And they can't force us to attend the "wedding." Still, with the divorce rate as high as it is, maybe it's time to take a look at what marriage really means and maybe revive the concept of a real marriage.
I'll just quote myself so some can see that not all "religious" people are against it. I'm not a fan of the word "religious" but I am a believer in God with faith. With all the God/Bible/gay marriage bashing going back and forth I wanted to make sure not all of us "religious" folks were lumped together. I think some are missing the point that churches aren't being forced to marry gay couples. The state issued marriage license is totally separate from the church ceremony that most recognize as "marriage".
Well it seems I am in good company considering 4 Supreme Court justices feel this is a violation of states rights. Below is a excerpt from the descent. “I write separately to call attention to this Court’s threat to American democracy,” Scalia said. “This practice of constitutional revision by an unelected commit*tee of nine, always accompanied (as it is today) by extrav*agant praise of liberty, robs the People of the most im*portant liberty they asserted in the Declaration of Independence and won in the Revolution of 1776: the freedom to govern themselves.”
ChurchArcher I agree with what you have stated concerning the SCOTUS ruling today. I know that opinion is unpopular here and I am not going to get into a debate about moral biblical teachings and my "personal" beliefs which Hook has so eloquently stated as "not meaning anything". It is possible to love people but disagree with what they are doing. That is the way I feel about the gay marriage issue. I don't hate the person but the lifestyle is ungodly and therefore I cannot condone this ruling. The reasoning that the affirming judges gave was weak at best in the affirmation and lacked any good legal logic in my opinion but that is another argument and I certainly do not have an expansive legal background. This is my opinion and I have read most everyone else's on this topic so don't be hating, you expressed your opinions and I have expressed mine. Everyone is entitled to their own.
Just saw a story on yahoo about the white house being lit up in rainbow colored lights, rather than the traditional white lights. Why choose to make a statement like that? I don't begrudge the gay marriage decision but why choose to use the white house to make a statement?
I don't disagree with the result (I think gay marriage should be legal even if I don't agree with it)... I just think it is TERRIFYING how okay everyone is with a random group of nine people that no citizen voted for making their own laws to be enforced nationwide. Since when did the executive and judicial branches replace the legislative? It's kind of like the weed issue to me. I think it should absolutely be legal nationwide.... I think it is absolute crap how they are going about it by leaving it illegal nationwide but choosing not to enforce these laws in particular states.
This is spot on. As a Christian, I believe God's word teaches it is a sin. So is adultery, sex outside of marriage, etc. However, we live in a free country and can't legislate morality. My ideal scenario would be for the government to get out of marriage altogether. Issue civil union licenses to those who want it and let the religious institutions recognize marriage however they want. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
