Woke this morning at 0400 and took my sent elimination shower, hopped in the truck and made the 25 min drive to my main spot. Weather was absolutely gorgeous but a tad on the warmer side. Got to my spot and changed into my hunting gear and sprayed down. Then walked into my main spot and unlocked my climber and up I went. I was all nestled in at about 0515 just as I had planned. Sat and waited for shooting light which came at around 0620. My Ol'Man multivision climber is super comfy but I stood as shooting light approached. I had seen on my trail cam that does were frequently walking through and checking my mock scrape in the mornings. Had a pretty nice doe follow the script and come in pretty much exactly as I expected. She came from behind me to my left and was on a path towards my scrape that would leave her broadside at 10 yards. As she slipped behind some of the leaves from the tree next to me I drew back. She then stepped out from behind the leaves and I let it loose. It was a perfect shot that got both lungs and clipped the heart. Entered above the right side shoulder and exited the opposite side lower armpit. She ran about 60 yards and crashed just out of view from me. I later saw the white of her belly from my tree when I leaned out far enough. A couple weeks ago I had decided to switch from my muzzy's to try out the Rage 2 blade broadheads. Decided this simply because I wanted to see what kind of blood trail they would produce. I can say that they "rolled out the red carpet"!! I've never seen a blood trail like that besides firearm hunting. Here's a pic (entry side up) of her as she laid when I walked up on her. Tagged, gutted, and drug her out. Took her right down the road to my folks house real quick for a couple pics. Then I cut out the backstraps, fish, and quartered her out and have her on ice in the cooler. I just grilled up some bacon wrapped backstraps for dinner. Super Yummo!!! :D
Congrats Remington, pretty cool how you had them patterned! Nice shooting to, bet she only lasted seconds!
Yeah buddy she crashed after between 50-60 yards just outta sight from me. Then after I calmed down a little I leaned out and looked around some trees and saw the tell tail white belly laying there. :D
that's awesome!! I really want to learn how to butcher my own! your gonna have to show me.....if all goes well of course....lol
Heck yeah bro. Its a skill I've been wanting to learn for a while. This is my first attempt at it so it may just end up being pretty much all ground after its all said and done. Haha. Last year after I got my doe and found out how much they charge around here for processing my father and I went halves on a grinder. Heck with the next 2 deer, including this one, it will more than pay for itself.
IMO, butchering your own harvest is, and will always be, the ultimate conclusion to the story and experience of the hunt. And this may sound corny or crazy but I feel it offers the most respect and admiration for the animal you harvested.
Nice doe, great story. What kind of Bear Bow is that, how do you like it. I have a Bear Lights Out and thinking about upgrading.
