Hey guys, for all you Arrow Affliction fans I've got some pretty exciting news. I had about an hour long chat with Chris on Friday and got some pretty interesting insight into why he left Arrow Affliction and what he plans on doing next (also got the scoop on whats going to happen to Arrow Affliction after this season!). I wrote up a full recap of the convo for everyone to check out here...

I hope hes off the air and stays off the air. After he promoted a head on shot at a deer on national TV I got nothin for him. I don't care what his skill set is. That is an unethical shot and one he shouldn't be promoting. I understand that he wants to be seen as "hardcore and cutting edge" and that his target demographic is the younger crowd. Just the people who don't need to see that type of shot placement promoted.

End of rant until the next thread I see about that slob!

Never seen one of his shows before, but that's exactly the demographic we need to be promoting ETHICAL shot placement to; not vice versa.

I have mixed feelings about the situation, but I like the way you worded the situation. ;)

A.) I agree that head shots should not be promoted to young hunters

    but...

B.) IMO I think there is more good in what AA is doing, than bad. Anything that might get more young people excited about hunting is a good thing in my book and I'm pretty sure Arrow Affliction has done just that. But thats just my opinion...

Not a head shot but a head on deer facing the hunter shot.

I have to agree with you that the show does interest and excite young hunters. But as a bowhunter ed instructor I can't get past the head on shot thing. It makes me wonder how many hunters out there thought to themselves, "That guy on TV said its a good shot so"...and lost the deer with a bad hit. If even once that scenario happened its too often. I think Chris' passion for the sport,(and its obviously a great passion), would be better served if he left out that kind of questionable material. He said himself on that episode he would catch flak for promoting it. He knows better!

I liked his show. I didn't care for the music, but the trick shooting every week was a nice touch.

I noticed he's shooting a Diamond in the new ads. Didn't he used to shoot a Mathews?

I've seen the show a couple of times. The trick shooting is pretty cool and impressive. I never saw the "head on" shot promotion, but I agree that is not something we want to condone or encourage. Hopefully the new version of AA won't include that and Brackett will promote the right things on his new show as well. If so, best of luck to both.

I liked the show the first season, but but shooting snakes , bull frogs, and trick shots got old...I wanted to see whitetails more and maybe some hogs...I didn't like the way the show was put together. it was too chopped up..he's a cool guy I think and he loves bowhunting, I wish him well and I will watch his new show and see what it is..

I think he is good for the sport. He is always telling his viewers to get out there and shoot something. He hunts every animal you can think of with a bow...how is that a bad thing? He is passionate about the hunt as well as the animals, his show is just different from ALL the other hunting shows out there that are very much alike. I have much respect for the guy and hope he does well with his new show.

    all this fuss

Why is everyone so uptight about making a head on shot? It is a very effective technique if you know how to do it. It is no more unethical than any other broadside shot, in fact i made this very shot in 2008 from 45 yards and my buck was down within 10 yards of where i hit him. Chris brackett did nothing wrong when he explained the head on briskett shot because he emphasized the PRACTICE it takes in order to make such a shot. he infact discouraged it unless you were 100% comftorable with the shot, your gear, and the conditions presented at that time. i see no reason for ANYONE to speak ill of Chris and his technique he was able to share on national tv.

Just because I can take my Mazda6 @ 40 mph, pull the e-brake and slide into my parallel parking spot 9 out of 10 times, does not me I should do it... or promote it to others.

If you had seen the episode in question, I don't believe you would have such a strong negative opinion about Brackett. He says on that episode many times that unless you practice it and are 100% sure of ability to make this shot do not attempt it. He was just stating that it was a lethal shot that many bowhunters did not take, either on a target or in the field.

I did see the episode and still think it was irresponsible of him to promote the shot. And for me it all comes back to his target demographic. He caters to a younger crowd. That younger crowd is more likely to try to make that shot without the practice it would require. My personal feelings are its a bad shot at any time regardless of a hunters skill level and its not a shot I would take. I think its unethical and a low odds shot at best I also think a hunter taking the shot at 45 yards..... well, I don't want to get banned for speaking poorly of another member so I'll just leave it at that.
I am very pleased that Chris is off the air. I hope he doesn't make it back on national TV.

So assuming that you have been hunting for a while, Im sure you have lost a deer or missd one Txjourney, all while taking what you consider "ethical or high %" shots...It happens. Just because you don't see this shot Chris feels is "ethical or high%" for him, doesn't mean he can't make it cleanly. This guy is a really great shot and hunts and practices more than most of us. I see nothing wrong with him taking that shot. I think its well within his skillset.
Also he is not responsible for how other people hunt or shoot at animals.
