Believe it or not Steve. I went through a lot of those 1 tag seasons. One thing I have learned is fewer deer, fewer hunters, more deer, more hunters. At least that's the way it has been in IL.

If the deer population went back to the way it was in the late 60's I wonder what would happen to resident tag sales?

    Nonresident tag sales?

Shooting better scores in golf is directly proportional to your skill level though.

How does that relate to this topic?

The "next level" is "doing things so much better"??

I don't think your shoulder injury a couple seasons ago was from drawing your bow as much as it was patting yourself on the back ;)

What if you have 2 tags??..........do you still have to pass deer to reach the prestige of the "next level"??

Why does an extra tag give you a free pass?

Now it's a "mental state" reserved for only the mightiest of warrriors.

    Mere mortals simply cannot understand.

LOL.........like anyone is going to think differently of NYBH based on what he shoots in coming years and whether or not he was commited mentally to it beforehand. He is a very good hunter with quality land for his area who busts his ass and gets the job done, having fun while he does it. Put him anywhere else and he would kill good bucks for that location as well.

    What else is there?

If I lived on the farm I hunted in Illinois and didn't kill at least 1 buck over 140 every year and 1 tickling 170 every 5 years I would consider those time frames as miserable failures.

On a bass forum I would think the responses would be the same.

This whole ranking system is so confusing..............let me see if I understand this correctly.

Everybody THOUGHT Rybo was at the "next level" when he shot a couple slammers for his area but he really wasn't only he's the only one that knew it until he revealed it in this thread.

Germ's "next level" status was celebrated by all but a recent run of less then slammer bucks and a full head of hair on his ID card has the bouncers keeping an eye on him.

GregH and Tribal havn't killed a buck in a couple years now I believe since leaving their little slices of heaven.........does this mean they are demoted a level or are they still at the "next level" because they are still trying?

NYBH will be considered "next level" not if he kills a bigger buck next time alone.......it has to be coupled with a pre-existing condition of altered mental state AND an unknown number of other bucks passing by him in a hunting conga line.

Scott was at the "next level" but was unable to draw his bow on a nice buck because his shoulder was a "level" behind.........after some rehab and battling through a mind field of hair filled socks and bleach bottles they rejoined each other on the same "level" only to be demoted for losing a buck but then quickly promoted again when another big boy happened down the trail.

Fran managed to find a "next level" above THE KING OF ARCHERY by simply doing exactly what he always does just in Ohio this time.

Jeff started out "levels" ahead of every other beginner because of the internet and lots of walking targets to play catch up with. He still couldn't get behind the velvet ropes though because the soil in Carolina is his glass ceiling. His recent conversion to loin cloth and traditional gear should/would be enough but the sounds of gunfire mixed with cats flossing and a penchant for the truth is not helping his case.

Preacher Tony's "level" was stolen out of his car when he wasn't looking.

I'm the only guy in history to try to sneak into the "next level" with a button buck killed by a gun........they kicked me out so far that I am now looking UP at Hunlee and the walls are covered with pictures of germ in that pink tank and Don with his Paris Hilton "dog"........worst of all the quote feature doesn't work and the proshop has no WB's but plenty of ScentLok.

Tiffany Lakoski is at the highest of "levels" in many ways but for some reason killing big bucks is never one that gets mentioned.

No one has ever or will ever be on the "level" of Duke's mustache.

It's much easier to take your hunting game to the "next level" depending on where you hunt but to even mention such blasphemy will get you tossed from the elite club faster then a bounced check at a P+Y meeting.

In the end when Justin sees this thread and spins his totem.............does it fall over?

    and then...
the "matter of progression" IS the next level.

There is no secret hand shake. There is no magical club. No application. No voting in. etc.... I think you have the whole concept a littel confused. At least from my point of view. I'm not looking for pats on the back. I'm not looking for acceptance from some higher state of hunters. I'm not comparing myself to anyone. I'm by no means puffing my chest out.

I'm simply considering hunting animals that are very very few and far between (but out there) and harder to kill than what I've killed in recent years. It's really that simple. Which believe it or not makes it a different level of hunting. Different kind? Different challenge? Something new? Next level? Not sure what to call it.

So I was playing Wii ping pong this morning. I was at level 1350. I had to play Victor and I beat him 6-3. My level advanced and I'm in the 1400 now. Now I have to play Marcy who is very hard to beat. She has a wicked spin on her backhand and can smash the heck out of it when she wants to. Also returns very well. It's going to be a tough challenge. But if I lose I'll get dropped back down to the Victors of the world which I think I can handle pretty good for the most part.

Guys this is a great thread. I have a good place that I hunt, I let alot of young bucks walk. Im not trying to take it to any level. I have a few 150 inchers (not shot in Jersey) on the wall, so for me to hold out for a bigger than what I have on the wall is more of a pipe dream here in south Jersey. I try to hold out for 3 1/2 yr olds and, what their racks are is what they are. I shoot plenty of mature does thru the season and have fun. I shed hunt the same areas, so I have a pretty good idea of what is floating around my areas. Im certainly not killing the upper end bucks in the area but I have encounters a few good ones a year. Most of the land I hunt is public, we are in a 3 point restricked area, but passing young bucks is how you get the mature ones around. This year I have passed 17 bucks that would have been legal to let the air out, some were in the 2 1/2 yr old range and one was a 3 1/2 yr old 18 inch wide 6 pointer. I shot a 3 1/3 year old 10 pointer, and 2 mature does, and have had a great season so far. You gotta have fun, and set realistic goals, we all have dreams on the opener, but have fun out there is what its about, shoot a buck that you liked that day!

Luckily that self infilicted back patting injury has healed up very well and no longer bothers me. It did take a good two years before the pain was finsihed "coming and going" though.

I did learn however, in the future if I am going to pat myslef on the back, to use my leftarm instead of my right incase of another patting inury.
