Finally got around to getting her set up; it's been an extremely busy time in my life here lately. Plus, I've been trying to sneak away and get as much turkey hunting in as I can with my oldest boy... Still need to throw a peep in her, and needless to say I'll still have to tune her up a bit and sight her in. Maybe she'll get to accompany me in a blind before the gobbler season ends, but that'll be iffy. The BlackOps combo with the red accenting has become my favorite pattern over the last couple years, as I simply think it looks the sharpest. I'll be pulling the factory sideplates and replacing them with a pair of Torqueless ones just like I've got on my BlackOps D340 that are bright red to bring out the accenting even more: The new Invasion sideplates will probably find their way onto my Predator Fall Gray Destroyer 340, seen in the last pic below... I've not been a fan of the plastic grip that came on the Destroyers -- to say the least -- and the only reason I kept the one on my FG D340 was because it was custom-matched to the bow at the factory. I see a lot of questions asked about how the Invasion CPX compares to the Destroyer 340, so I grabbed both of them a few minutes and sent 20 or so arrows through each of them into my Spyderweb target about 10 feet away or so, just to get a feel for both -- alternating one arrow after another with each of them. To be honest, there's not much of a difference in the "feel" of the shot... The Destroyer tips nicely forward at the shot, while the Invasion has a bit of lag time before falling over due to its weight distribution. I actually like this, as it leaves the bow almost stationary for a split second after the arrow is launched. Either one is fine however, someone who only had one or the other would get used to the reaction of whichever bow he had after a few shots through it. I was extremely concerned about the axle-to-axle length of the Invasion when I was first told what kind of platform it would be on (well, actually I knew the platform a year ago ... but not it's a-to-a length.) I had campaigned hard with BowTech's director of R&D for it to be at least 34". Anywhere from 34 - 36" would have worked for me... 34 would have been perfect, IMO. After setting up everything for an initial run-through, I've found that I think I'll be able to live with the 31" a-to-a length much better than I anticipated; the string angle is actually fairly close to the D340s. All in all... I guess she's found a home.
I have a black riser/camo limb Alpha Max that I am going to put new strings on this year. I was thinking of going with the black/red strings. I only use mine for hunting, mainly treestand hunting. Have you ever had any issues with the red being seen by game?
Clee, if you follow Chuck Adams at all, you'll see he usually has a quiver-full of arrows with all-red fletching; he says he does so because he can see them easily enough in flight, and that as we believe most deer are color blind, they can't see the red -- it just looks like a dark, muted gray to them.
Makes sense, Greg. Jackson, MO, huh? I'm originally from Fredericktown. In fact, I'll be teaching in Arcadia Valley next school year. What are the turkeys doing down in your area now?
Greg she is Sweet Looking !!!!! Only wish they had made the Invasion available in my draw length, they left us short draw women out of the mix on this one, pissed me off. ARGHHHHHH I really wanted to get the invasion to hunt with. Guess Ill have to keep on shooting my Destroyer 350
Thanks for all the nice comments gang. Clee, I've been having a hard time pulling them my way off the roost so far... it's been better so far in the late morning. Of course, I've negated my ability to run n' gun because I've chosen to remain stationary with a ground blind due to having my ultra-fidgety 7-year-old in two with me on every hunt.
