We got them shakin in their boots, guys! Keep at it and let's put this thing out of reach! The reason I want to win this thing MOST of all is so we can stick together as a team for next year....you guys have been AWESOME!
Thanks guys. went out this moring but didn't last long. The wind was howling and no deer movement. Hoepfully with this front moving in I'll see some bigger bucks. Scott, those are some nice looking deer. I hope you get that big one. Keep at it everybody.
Nice job guys. sorry have not posted in a few days but I have had the flu bug or something. Sitting here wondering if I feel well enough to hit the woods this afternoon. Will, I just realized you asked for my number...........will pm it to you this evening when I get home from work or hunting))). Keep piling on the point boys !!! Be safe !! Dave
Good luck Isaiah. Slam one hard! Keep hunting Clint. I agree Tony. Dave, I will watch for it and call. Thanks man.
OK this is freaky !!!! I went out and sat the far west end of the property. Saw a huge non typical who look just like my 2007 buck, I mean he looked exactly like him. Passed by at 50 yards with no shot. That entire encounter was just freaky. Maybe I am being haunted)))) Someone may have to come walk me to my stand and walk me out in the evenings..............in scared))) 2007 Buck picture. Dave
Tony I agree 100% with you. This is my 5th year that I have participated in this contest (4 on HNI, and first here). We have a great group of guys on this team, and it would be awesome if we could keep it together for next year. I'm back from my day at the farm, and it was a great day to be in a deer stand in Illinois. My friend Ross was hunting with me again, and he went and sat at the same stand this morning, that I killed my buck out of last year. During his morning hunt, he saw 8 does and what he called a good 8 pointer walk the opposite end of the field. He got down and moved over there, and when he got settled, a doe walked out under the stand he was sitting in lol. He was bummed over not getting his first crack at a deer. I went to the stand I hung yesterday. It is a great funnel area, in some pretty thick stuff. I had 3 does come directly under me right at first light. A little later, a button buck cruised through. Around 9:15, I looked behind me and walking about 70 yards from me was a really good looking 9 pointer. I put him at about 135", and grabbed my Primos Buck Roar. 1 aggressive roar, and a snort wheeze later, he was 30 yards away, but in the middle of a big cluster of bushes. He didn't like what he saw, and took out. I got down at 11:30, and met up with Ross at the truck. We both wanted to go back to the same stands for the afternoon, and I was settled back in by 2:00. It didn't take long, and 6 does came through, and a not much longer, a small 7 pointer came and worked a scrape near the base of my tree. A little after 4:00, I caught a glimpse of antlers coming towards me. I grabbed my bow, but I couldn't find the deer in the binocs. I finally saw him, as he passed through one of my shooting lanes at 34 yards. He was a mid 120's 8 pointer. I tried to stop him there, but he didn't hear me. I drew, and got ready to take a shot at the next lane. For some reason, he jumped out of the creek, and took a different path. I watched him walk out into a cut bean field, without ever getting a shot. As the night wore on, I saw 6 more does, and 2 more small bucks walk by my setup. Ross said he had a great 10 pointer heading his direction tonight.....until my not too intelligent brother in law decided to take a 4-wheeler ride around the field edge, sending the buck back into the woods. Overall, it was a great 2 days of hunting. I saw 5 shooter bucks, with 4 of them being in range. It was definantly frusturating, having them that close and not being able to get an arrow to them. However, tonight was a blast seeing all those deer moving around, and I got to take my best friend out there too. He had a great time on his first non-public land hunt, and it was fun being able to hunt with him. I'll be back at it again Friday, but with a shotgun in my hands. Illinois has a dumb law, that says you can't bowhunt during the firearms season.
Your all over them Scott, I wonder why you cant use a bow during firearms season, what's their logic behind that? Good Luck Friday none the less. I went out this evening after the winds settled quite a bit and had two does come out at 30 yards, but no visible buck to follow, I heard a few other deer but as darkness fell, so did my anticipation. I'll be hunting in Franklin County tomorrow, All lot "better" of a county than where I hunt, I've got a little 20acre piece that has some nice sign on it, But I haven't seen anything much yet, but then again I've only hunted it 4 times or so...
Thanks Aaron, and good luck to you as well. Hopefully you get on one of those good bucks tomorrow. My dad worked for the Illinois DNR for most his life, and when I was a kid I remember him saying that they didn't want people to be claiming that they were shooting deer with a bow, when they were really using a gun. Also, that they didn't want the extra bow tags being filled with guns kills. I'm not sure if this is really their reasoning or not, just what I remember from years back.
http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?t=17436 just an update about whats been going on with me ...
My deepest condolences Tony. Put Sophie deep into your heart. Find that little something which will make her eternal. Come here to relax and recreate with family and friend. We will help....
Saw 7 deer and 2 bucks. Both were too small. Had damn turkeys all over me this morning. Glad i didn't have any good bucks because I couldn't hit anything. Missed a hen at 12 yards. Also missed a tough shot at a tom at 35. I stopped there as I was running out of arrows. I didn't feel so bad because my brother in law missed one too. I'll be back at it this evening. I'm going to try something different and hunt from the ground on a place nobody hunts.
Someone kill something)))) It has been a few days and I am going through withdraws....lol Be safe, Hunt hard Dave
Tony.........I need you at my house at 4:30 am Saturday morning. I need a body guard/escort to my far west treestand, I am being haunted and I am skeered)))) Then again if I see that non-typical again I may perform an exorcism on him with an arrow))) Dave
I'm telling you Dvae, That's what I'd do! I'd let the evil air out of him in the worst way! I have a feeling tonight is the night for Clint.
