Poking a hole in his lungs ought to do the trick Have you seen any rut activity? Best way to catch him is set up where the does are feeding, it seems like you have been rattling/calling pretty hard and it hasn't worked out well, maybe don't call as much. If you see a buck that is not going to walk right by then that is a great time to try and call him in. But for now just try to stay as invisible as possible. and keep an eye on where the does are at. The bucks should be chasing them all over kingdom come right now.
The owner of the land I'm hunting said he's been like that for years. Maybe he had an injury when he was young and it's still taking a toll on him.
I'm going to call a guy that owns about 280 acres behind the property I'm hunting now. I'm almost 100% sure that buck Is hiding somewhere In that 280 acres.
I think he was chasing a doe because I had a pic of a doe a couple minutes before him. I'll probably hunt that property tomorrow
I think he is close to 130 based on that pic. Hard to see all the angles but his left side will make up in mass scores what it lacks in beam length. Inside spread is a bit tricky with him as well. Again thats just going with that one image and tines I can see
Yeah, I noticed earlier today that he put the wrong score in for the buck, but the overall score was correct. I PM'd him this morning Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
With a buck like that you don't need to worry about the score too much, just the fact that it's a big mature deer. He might score 70 on the left side but only 30-40 on the right side. My guess would be 110"- 120". If he had both sides he might be 140"- 150"
Well guys I blew it this morning. Missed a nice probably 130" 10pt. Should've been a gimme, 18yd shot, quartering away, shot underneath him. He lost some hair and is gonna have a nice scratch on his belly but I'm confident that he's fine. So freaking pissed at myself right now... Sorry guys.
Just glad you didn't wound him mortality. We all have missed at some point. Keep at it and redeem yourself next time. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
It happens. Get back in the saddle and try again. It's nothing for the him to come right back this time of year.
There is Nothing to be sorry for, I think we all enjoy getting excited for the contest, but at the end of the day who cares. I was pissed at myself when I grazed my buck this year too. Don't let it stick in your head, it's only going to sour your next hunt. your deer is going to be just fine. If someone else doesn't get him then you will see he is doing just fine in a week or two. Move on and try again. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well I'm back in a tree this evening. Different stand at the other end of the property. Like you guys said, no better way to get over a miss than getting back in the saddle and keeping after it. Not going to do me any good sitting around dwelling on it. On a positive note, the 10 i missed this morning is actually not the buck I thought he was. He's probably only 3 1/2. There is another buck with a very similar rack except larger that is more mature. They both appeared on my cams around the same time and I only have a couple of pics so I assumed they were the same deer until I started looking into it some more this morning. Maybe this morning will be a blessing in disguise and I'll get a chance at his older brother...
