Family illness has kept me out of the woods this week and likely next week also. It's a long season though so I am sure I'll join you guys on the scoreboard. Keep up the great work.

Just finished my first attempt at butchering my own and I feel I did pretty well actually. I ended up with 15lbs of ground and about 13lbs or so of steaks and other cuts. Here's a pic of my vacuum sealed deliciousness. :D

 

Just checked the weather forecast for tuesday. We're supposed to have a NW wind at 13mph with a high of 68 and a low of 48. I think its time I set up on my buck trail, the wind direction will be perfect. That area has been untouched since august when I scouted it. I'm ready to put down some antlers.

I can't wait to get back out, hopefully pull a long next weekend. I really wouldn't mind getting a couple more does knocked down early, then just concentrate on bucks during most of October and November.

I went out this morning and set up on the buck trail. I didnt see any deer until about 8:15 when a herd of 4 does came wandering by about 70 yards from me. They started circling my stand, caught my scent and headed the other way. They did blow/stomp and run away so I guess thats somewhat of a good sign. I'm going back out this afternoon on my big property. I should have a good wind to set up near some buck sign near a big white oak. I'll keep you posted if I get/see anything.
