2 of 3 shooters on one farm here at home are confirmed alive after the first gun season, which is nice to know.

Both of the big 3 year olds I want to live on my other lease in NW IL are also confirmed alive.

They still have four more gun seasons plus the 5th DNR-only gun season to make it through.

    EDIT: For those wondering.

    1. 2nd firearms general season
    2. Muzzleloader season
    3. Late CWD Season #1
    4. Late CWD Season #2
    5. DNR sharpshooting over corn piles in Feb/March

Hunted Weds afternoon - saw one little buck.
Hunted Thursday morning - saw 2 adult does and 3 fawns but not in shooting range.

I'm going to hunt for a few hours this afternoon and see how I handle the cold and wind. We've had such a warm fall my body hasn't exactly adapted to this crap yet. 22 degrees with 15 mph wind is always fun!

Boy, howdy, Ill tell ya. I think this is the sickest I’ve ever been. A few weeks of kinda feeling under the weather, like something was trying to creep in, to a fever Thursday night I couldn’t get to break until last night. DayQuil/NyQuil and ibuprofen would knock it down but I pretty well slept all day unless I was in the shower. Going to the dr today, I couldn’t yesterday bc the fever was so bad. I believe it’s some kind of pneumonia that’s going around.

So, I haven’t been hunting, cameras really haven’t picked up on the food plot. Maybe next weekend

I skipped Friday afternoon's hunt - I just wasn't feeling it. Last night I took my son out to our lease and was hoping to see some good movement. We saw ONE deer between the two of us, which is utterly dismal considering the conditions.

Not sure what I'm going to do this afternoon quite yet. I may just chill out at home and put up some Christmas decorations. Hunting is stupid.

my homefront duties are fulfilled until Christmas, so I will be up in MI this Friday. It'll be MZ season, but in the zone I hunt in you can use any legal firearm so I will have an '06 but I will also have my bow. Looks like there will be snow on the ground and it will be in the upper 20s. Hopping on Amazon right now for a new heated vest, I am not satisfied with the one I currently have.

good luck to those still grinding!

I hunted all day Friday with my oldest. In the morning, we sat in a creek bottom about 150 yards apart, saw one small buck at 60. We moved to a public land food plot for the afternoon. With about 20 minutes of light left, a doe and the big 8 that I missed on 11/08 and a smaller 8 came in. The small 8 is probably around 115", big one is P & Y all day. The doe had to be close to coming into heat, neither buck would let her get more than 50 yards away. But, she wouldn't let them get closer. At one point, I was able to grunt the big buck into about 65 yards from 100, but not closer. I had a perfect opening at 40 yards if he had come close enough. Both the doe and the big buck got within 30 yards of my son where he was sitting on the ground on the other side of the plot, but the doe had him pegged and he wisely chose not to force a shot that probably would have turned into a bad shot.

Saturday afternoon we went back to the same spot, I moved to the other side of the plot where the doe and bucks came in. I had to set up on the ground since my middle son was with me and he can't sit by himself yet. Had three does come into 40 yards with about 10 minutes of light left. I got busted trying to draw and they took off.

Sounds like a productive couple of sits! At least you're seeing deer and getting close.

I took last night off from hunting and got all of my Christmas lights, and other decorations hung up outside the house. You know it's a bad season when I'd rather climb a ladder and hang from a gutter than go hunting and not see any deer again.

Wrong place wrong time bugaloo bug hits again and it hurts.

Sat all day in frigid conditions monday. It was 11 degrees when I climbed in in the morning. But I had the cold weather gear, my heated vest and rechargeable hand warmers. I was surprisingly comfy. This was a known buck rut funnel. 2nd rut is kicking in pretty good right now. I saw nothing all day while cameras were firing off everywhere else.

Then tuesday I sat elsewhere and wouldn't you know.....

Well I’ve been off of work since thanksgiving. The pneumonia hit hard and it is the sickest I’ve ever been. I’ll take Covid, h1n1, the flue, and a swift kick to the bag, all at once, over what I had. I’ve so far thrown up from coughing so hard, coughed up blood, and threw my back out from coughing too hard.

Now that I’m done whining like a little girl,
I’ll be hitting it hard these next few weeks. I’ve got to get some meat in the freezer. I may shoot this weird looking 6?/7? if I get a chance, but mainly after one of the 10’s (I’m not sure which one this is) and a doe. Good luck everybody

Pneumonia is no joke and it's been going around! My kids and most of their classmates and sports teammates all battled it in October along with a few teachers and coaches. I'm amazed that my wife and I didn't get it too.

We had a family function at church last night so I couldn't go hunting. Target buck daylighted in front of two stands. God sure does work in mysterious ways my friends.

Hopefully I'll be back on the grind later this week when the frigid temps move back in. And yes, that is my treestand over the top of his back.

Great looking 8 point, very similar to the one I have been chasing. I think the G2s and G3s on that buck are slightly taller.
