Not all churches are like this, however, you are correct that there are some glaring examples of this happening. It is disgusting, while something should be done, I would not advocate government intervention. That sets a dangerous precedent for government restricting religious freedom. Better to let it be handled in the court of public opinion and trusting that people will see eventually through the garbage and quit supporting it.

I am in agreeance. However, if a church wants to set up shop on high value land and then use their churches as basically money laundering mechanisms to help support their members/investments/etc, then they need to be taxed if applicable.
Perhaps, but, all these questions of taxation and how to make everyone pay their "fair share" goes away if we eliminate income tax and go to a consumption-based sales tax. Taxation based upon what spend rather than what we make, removes that problem. It also forces everyone to pay tax on some level, even those in the country illegally.
