LMAO .... that is hilarious! Very accurate for sure lol.

Hit a good buck last night. Got very good blood and I'm pretty sure I drilled him. But ran into a situation that has made things more difficult. The picture above pretty much sums up what the buck did after he was shot. Headed for the ravine which we nicknamed the grand canyon. Just a big ole mess in the dark last night. Had a mile walk back to my truck. Had to get the 4 wheeler, ropes, winch, lights, etc... Had to get permission from the dude that owns the bottom of gully. No biggie he's cool aboutTh it but I like to notify him. He said sure ..... lots of luck getting it out though. Anyway after messing around trying to find him or where he went down the ridge for awhile I decided this whole deal will be 100 times easier in the morning. So.... I'm heading back in a few. Didn't get to sleep until 3 this morning. This morning is the first hunt I've missed since I can remember.

Well it's the end of the longest 24 hours of my life. The short version of the story because I am exhausted, starving and working on about 3.7 hours sleep in the last 48 hours. Not going to make it to see the Yanks get crushed.

Anyway .... yesterday morning I had a good buck come in about 18 yards. It was one of those on you and decide if you want to shoot him deals. I got the release on and just about ready to draw and something wouldn't let me take him. I've seen this BIG 140"+ 11 point on my land that I was after. All I could see while I was ready to draw was him. I really was after that buck and was going to hold out for him (or better). So I had the internal battle with myself and before I could think about it anymore it was over and he was out of range and heading away. Sat there and screamed at myself. Text PT and told him I was an idiot and I just screwed up. Kicked myself a few times the rest of the day.

Fast forward afternoon hunt.... I pretty much knew (good idea anyway) where he was heading to bed. I set up on the opposite side of that area along a ridge in the mouth of a nice little funnel leading to a corn field. Old logging road 30 yards in front of me. Bedding area to my left and field to my right. Behind me is what we nickname the grand canyon. Wind right in my kisser blowing over the ravine. Awesome little setup. Sure enough I catch a glimpse of body heading down the hill on the logging trail. Gets closer and it was the same dang buck from that morning! I tell myself no brainer don't be an idiot again. He gets 30 yards broadside and I let it fly. He mule kicks and I'm pretty sure I hit him very good.

After the shakes subside and I stop hyperventilating I go check it out. Found really good blood at impact and follow it for another 20 yards or so and feeling good about the blood, the shot, the way the buck reacted etc.... About 80 yards or so the trail ends! Not ending in blood, but ends from where the buck went off the edge of the cliff! Straight down as far as you can see. I saw a skid/run mark going down as far as I could see. Fabulous. I had a couple others do that, but 90% dont' and it isn't fun.

Decide to walk back to my truck (a mile or so). Had to call the landowner because he's now on posted property. No biggie because he's cool about it. Just like to notify him of what's up. Got the 4 wheeler, rope , some friends, etc... and headed back (on the landowner side of ravine. We looked around couldn't really pinpoint where he came down in relation to where last blood was. It was turning into a mess and everyone was beat (especially me), so I said screw it go back in the morning.

Went up to last blood in the morning and taped the crap out of it so we could see. Drove back around the other side of the hill to the other property and could see a landmark (tape we put up). Walked over to the bottom of the ravine and could see the skid mark going down the hillside. At the bottom of it laid my dead buck! Actually it wasn't exactly at the bottom. It was 25-30 yards from where it looked like it hit the bottom of the ravine. Can't quite figure that out.

So we got the 4 wheeler as close as we could from the neighbors side (much easier than my side) and dragged him out. Home sweet home! I'll post some pics tommorow... have to upload them still.

Thanks for the congrats everyone. Really happy this guy gave me a second chance.

PT feel free to post one I sent you before I get around to it.
