Crossville, Sort of in the Eastern part. I'm 65 miles West of Knoxville off I-40 and around 110 miles East of Nashville.
Well, long weekend with the family is just what I needed...now all I need to a little tree therapy come October 1st! All stands, blinds and trails have been prepped last weekend...and now cameras are hung in their final resting spots before the season....probably wait to pull them until a week prior to season opener or less. Can't wait for this year to start!
Just catching up with everything after being gone a week. Season started yesterday but I was parenting so not able to hunt. Heading out Thursday then all weekend long. I usually take 3-4 deer a year. With all the land I hunt I bet I have 20 stands out. Then I have my LoneWolf and sticks along with a climbing stand.
Yep, know where that is. In my previous job I traveled and purchased lumber. I have been to Neeley and DH Rose sawmills....if you know of those.
Been enjoying a little quality time with the oldest son here lately so haven't been around much . Seen some good bucks while dove hunting his grandpa's farm this morning , thinking that I might have to move some stands back onto that farm . Didn't shoot to many dove and really thinking that most have already moved south but we've been seeing a ton of teal . Almost more excited about getting to teal hunt with him this weekend than I am about deer season opening in a couple of weeks .
Checking in again guys. I'm pretty much done except for getting a final tune on the bow and doing some shooting. I headed out to my lease last weekend and put down a bunch of fertilizer on our plots, checked cameras, moved a stand, and actually pulled a bunch of cameras as I don't want to further disturb the deer I think I have pinned at this point. I'm going to hold back from posting a bunch more pics but I've got 8 different bucks in the 130-150 range on camera this year. A quick video of our biggest plot. It's about 90 yards by 30 yards and was seeded in Heartland Buck Buster two weeks before this video. 27 days and counting.........
Looks good RJ !! Got invited to go with one of my landowners this afternoon and meet with a wildlife biologist. He's wanting to put the property into a different CRP program and I must of had too many ?s for him so I'll go find out for myself as to how this new program will help deer and what I will be allowed to do to improve deer hunting once the landowner gets in this new program . I've always been interested in picking the brain of a biologist so this should be interesting .
Looks like the does are beginning to fall, just a service announcement to everyone. In your excitement do not forget to take multiple pictures (take extras despite only two being needed) WITH YOUR BOW IN THEM. I'm thinking October 1st can't get here fast enough...I got some does that need to be filling freezers right away.
Yeah that would have been neat. My college roommate lives in Northwest Tennessee, duck hunted with him out there last year. That's the extent of my Tennessee hunting. Lol
Well made it out of the mountains alive. We talked to a few locals and they pointed us in the right direction to a area that was covered up with elk sign. Unfortunately the only elk I saw was just a spike and they have a 4 point on at least one side rule. The bulls whereby bugling so that made it really tough. Another thing it seemed like they where moving a lot at night because we would always see fresh track in a wallow the following morning. We have a thread going of the trip. I just posted a few pictures and Paul is gonna write up a recap when we get back home. Only 4 hours left of the drive http://forums.bowhunting.com/bowhunting-talk/65028-7-days-until-colorado.html
Haven't been able to snap any picks yet but have seen some good bucks on a couple of properties . Like the rest of you all , I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE START OF SEASON ..... starting to get pretty wound up over it Found out that one of our properties is now between CRP programs and the landowner had to mow everything that he could .... but wasn't allowed to mow over any trees . I'm usually dead set against mowing just before season starts but with this property it will help us out a lot . Not really a problem but we had been discussing donating this property for some disabled hunts but it had been to over grown to do so . With the mowing we went ahead and made it available for others to have a couple of hunts on . If any of you ever find yourself in the spot of having more land than you can hunt and a little spare time , I highly recommend donating some land and time to others that need a little help .... It's an absolute blast
So I got a free bottom section of an API GrandSlam climber. It is in great shape. I'm actually going to use my little folding hunting stool as a seat on it, then securing it with ratchet straps to the tree, in theory turning it into a hang on. Kind of a last minute pop up idea and I have a perfect spot for it. I think it will work out pretty well. I'll post a pic on here when I put it together.
