Does anyone have any solid advice for shielding away ticks outside of saying keeping pants and socks tucked in... Are their any oils that can be used to treat the body which will act as a repellent.?

For two years now I have been using Sawyers premium insect repellent for clothing. Works on a number of insect, but is awesome against chiggers and ticks.
It last for months and up to six washings.
I have personally seen ticks jump off my clothes to get away.
I do my trail camera all year and I spray a pair of pants and a tee shirt with it.
I haven't had a tick or chigger at all.
I spray it on again mid summer.

X2.....just remember, this is a clothing treatment only....it is not intended for skin. I hang my clothes up outside (careful with the wind) and spray them down. Usually takes a few hours ( or at least 2) to dry in completely. I use it on my hunting clothes also....as far as I can tell it is scent free. I don't know of anything better for clothing, although Gamehide has come out with the new "ElimiTick" clothing. Suppose to shield from ticks, chiggers and other insects, odorless and lasts around 70 or so washings. I think they say it is based on the chrysanthemum flower or something like it. I have not seen it anywhere yet.

Perimone I think it's called.. keeps ticks and everything else off and lasts through a couple washings.

I agree with the guys above. You'll never see another tick on you, it works!

    Hey Wolfpack,
Yeh, I forgot to mention that I spray it on my clothes in my basement and let them dry overnight.
It says to never get on the skin and not to spray it on your clothes while wearing them.

Another vote for permanone or permethrin... you get several washes and it keeps it's "effectivness" for quite a while.

You'd be amazed at how much rubber boots help too. The majority of vegetation yielding ticks that we come in contact with is below knee height. Those little guys don't hang on to smooth rubber boots too well :D
