Well I have been playing with the new Z7 and have found that the Octane Hostage Pro rest does not work well with this setup. I am shooting ICS Hunter 400 arrows with 4" vanes. The rest kicks the arrows up as they leave the bow causing large vertical tears in the paper and nock high arrows in the targets. I mean these arrows hit at almost a 10 degree angle. So at a pro shop a few weeks ago I put a Whisker biscuit on and tried it. The arrows flew straight, cut perfect holes in the paper and went into the targets straight and true, leaving only one issue. Regardless of which rest is on I still hit 10-14" to the left at 20 yards. This is with the sights center wire, the rests center and the bow string perfectly inline. The bow groups nicely, just too far to the left. I can slide the sight over to the left as far as it will go but the bow is still off. Any thoughts?

It's being found that some bows tune best with the rest INSIDE of center shot. I would simply slide your rest a little to the right to get your extreme left impact under control. Maybe somebody else will chime in here, but I know my Admiral is just a touch inside of center shot, and it paper tunes perfectly where it's at. Good luck Jason.

Thanks a lot rattlesnake! Guess I am just picky but I wanted to keep everything dead centered up so at a glance I could tell if everything was inline, or to see if anything had been moved. Guess I'll try shifting the rest over a bit. Think I'm going to return the Octane Hostage Pro and swap out with a Whisker Biscuit Pro.

Quick question Jason - Is the Octane Hostage rest the Mathews rest? I have the new Mathews rest on my SB and it works very nice. I had a WB on for four years and it shot very well, but with the same left of center impact you describe. It may be left of center is an artifact of the WB?

Your rest centershot should be just about 13/16" of an inch, and your nock height should be about 3/16" high. Both of those rests should produce a bullet hole for you at these settings assuming your arrow is even close to being spined right.

How much weight and what draw length are you pulling?

Assuming your spine is correct, and you aren't getting a bullet hole from the specs I posted above, I'd probably start looking for vane contact. You can do this by placing a line of lipstick on the edges of your vanes and then looking at the rest to see if a line of lipstick made it on the rest or arrow shelf/window anywhere. Once I knew this was clean, I'd check your tiller settings and make sure both limbs have the exact number of turns in them from the bottomed out position, and then I'd check your cam rotation. All of Mathews cams (bottom) have 2x tiny holes (pencil lead sized) that you should be able to hold a straight edge across and it will be perfectly parallel to the string when timed correctly.

    Hope this helps!

Mine tuned at 11/16" centershot and 3/16" nock height above level. This was with a dropaway rest

As far as cam timing, the new Mathews cams have a round hole in them that the string should be in the center of.

I"d also check the IW lean. Lay a straight edge against the IW. At the nock point, there should be a 1/8" gap between the string and the straight edge. If set like that, then your string should track straight off the IW at full draw which is what you want.
