"This is public land with a recurve, you take what shot choices you get." The sad thing is he's probably not the only one with that mindset. I never shot a recurve but doesn't he have his nock point at his eye?
Seen a video posted on outdoor hub 's YouTube the other day where they take a shot at a black bear at a crappy angle at more than 45yds. It was just as bad if not worse since the hunter himself asked his companion/ guide if he should take the shot.
He lost me as soon as he tried nocking another arrow as soon as he shot, I'm guessing this was not his first miss. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Many people shoot traditional style looking down the arrow. But he didn't look at anything. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
Because he obviously doesn't know any better and unwilling to learn. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
I really think traditional bow hunting is for the elite. Its very instinctive and takes specific type of person to be good at it. Some things just can't be taught. If you think you practice with a compound a lot you will need to practice three times as much to become proficient with traditional equipment. I would speculate if the same number of hunters used a traditional bow as compounds their recovery rate would be 75% less. I would say that number would drop even more if you include the misses.
A lot of trad guys snap shoot. I can't do it. I need to anchor a second or two before release. I shoot instinctive and if I could snap shoot I could probably hunt with trad still. With my bad back holding at full anchor is when my back gives me problems. Having said that, trad or not, you don't take that shot angle. I passed on a huge non-typical whitetail in SD in 2006 because it came straight in and once behind my tree it was too thick too shoot.
I'm can't believe the deer cam in with "Stranglehold" blaring in the background...I wonder if Uncle Ted was in a hang-on behind him playing live. Anyone else hunt with music? Maybe that's what I'm missing.
I wouldn't have even drawn with the angle the deer was coming in on, sheesh that was terrible. Glad he missed
He should have never shot at that deer being almost dead on. Be patient, wait for the deer to give you a broadside or 1/4 away.. He reaally needs sommeone to coach him. I don't care if you have been hunting for a specific deer all year long and it's the last night of the last day of season and your deer is 10 yards away.. if he isn't giving a good shot angle and/or you are not confident that you can put an lethal shot on that animal.. let it go. I have missed, I have mad bad shots and I consider myself a darn good shot.. but I have also let down because the shot just didn't feel right. Rather let that deer, or whatever, walk away and I'll try and get it next time.
This is awful, makes me mad. He also disabled the comments on his video. It makes difference his choice of weapon, I've hunted plenty with recurves on public land. All the more reason to wait for an ideal shot.
