WTF is up with this? It is usually LL or AAU teams trying to get money to go to some tournament. They are just standing at intersection begging for money. When I played and we needed to make money for a tourney, we offered some type of service, whether it be car wash, lunch plate, something. This crap pisses me off. I never give them a dime.

    Is this common everywhere else?

It's common here. It's usually the local fire department raising money for toys for tots or other things where they help the less fortunate. I usually give them some change out of the cupholder, they give me a tootsie roll or some token gift and I'm on my way. The thing I don't like is when you have to go through the intersection several times a day, and if you don't pay each time, you get the stink eye. That kind of pisses me off.

I have never even heard of this before. I wouldn't give them any money, either. At least do a car wash or something, don't teach the little kids to try and get a reward for doing nothing.

It's usually a car wash in my area. I have not seen the teams just standing there asking for money.

They'd have to stand there a mighty looooooong time in my lil town. LOL Wait we don't have any stop lights...
Our kids do car washes or even more often the moms will all make stuff and do a bake sale or something.

It mostly goes towards beer money for the coaches.

Yeah, it's some dumbass ****. What's even worse around here is that most of the time the parents are the ones standing there asking for the money for the kids and the kids are nowhere to be seen. Don't worry kids, we'll go beg for you. Good message to send.

We have kids here do it all the time. They take a bucket, stand on a busy street corner, and beg for money.

Every weekend around here. It's the one thing they don't get from OBAMMA, so they have to get it someplace.

Never saw this on the side of the road. Around here they sell candy bars, or maybe set up at the entrance to grocery store.

I have not seen that but there is always some group at the grocery store looking to bag your groceries.

Well GA is part of the south, yet they don't do it around here. Whatever makes you feel better though.

Haven't seen that in my part of Bama either and yep, we are the South too. Plenty of car washes, BBQ sales and candy sales though

Maybe it's just in larger cities? And can't really see this type of thing working in small towns because of lack of traffic.

Around here we try to get sponsors. In return the sponsors get their name on a banner and are recognized.

The league itself does a raffle and the parents buy the tickets when they sign the kids up. This is on top of sign up fee. It is then, up to the parents to sell the tickets.

Prizes are cash and tv's and such.

I don't mind the kids working but when you only have a week or two to get ready for a tourney, they need all the practice they can get.
