I am looking to get my daughter a bow for Christmas. She's 10 years old, pretty tall for her age and fairly strong. We went to the pro-shop yesterday and she pulled 32lbs pretty easy on a Hoyt Ignite. Which looks like an awesome bow, but maybe outside my price range at $400 RTH. Anyone have any recommendations of a particular bow that she can grow with?
The Mission Craze is awesome, but the price is about $400 with the ready to shoot package at my pro shop. I got my nephew one for his 11th birthday and the adjustments are quick and easy. He'll be able to hse it into adulthood. Plus, if you daughter doesn't get into bow hunting, it's a great back up bow for you.
My boys like their Mission Crazes, very sweet bows. The Diamond Edge isn't bad either, the neighbor boy has that bow.
Id go with the Hoyt Ignite. $299 bare bow or $389 RTH at my dealer. Infinite edge is a sweet bow as well.
I'll have to check w. my dealer. They only had the RTH package in stock and it was $399. I suppose if I went bare bow, then I could let her help pick out her accessories with some of her Christmas money
Will this be her first time shooting a bow? What I have found that works best is to only put a rest and d-loop on the bow at first and let them sling arrows. They just want to have fun. He/She will let you know when they are ready for a sight as they will ask for it. Maybe it will be different for her as she is a little older then the kids I have started.
She actually has the Bear brave, but has outgrown it. Looks like I can get the Bear Apprentice 2 RTH at Cabelas for $250. As much as I'd like to get her the Hoyt, that's $150 cheaper. Can anyone give me any reason's NOT to buy the Bear Apprentice 2?
I think at this point it's cost vs. function. Why would you pay $150 more for her to plink around the yard or shoot at targets. Is she going to take it hunting? $250 is a pretty sweet deal. I think you're going to be hard pressed to beat it unless you can find a diamond on good sale.
Well, right now she will just be target shooting, but she is showing interest in hunting. So the end goal is to be able to hunt with it in a couple years.
I just bought the Diamond Infinite for $349 on cabelas with a $100 cabelas bucks on cyber Monday. Seems like a great bow.
My daughter has been looking at bows and after searching for a year I think we are going with the Bear Apprentice she is 12
Our local shop sales the Infinite edge and doesnt recommend it said they are having problems with limbs cracking and it takes for ever to get replacement parts under warranty.
Does your state have a minimum ATA measurement? Some do, ours is 28" minimum and an apprentice 2 is 27.5"..... May or may not be an issue for you.... Out of all the bows for youngsters, for girls, my favorite is the Hoyt Ruckus.... In my experiences, when girls feel and handle the Craze, Ruckus and Edge side by side - they seem to like the lighter weight and general feel of the Ruckus.... But all those mentioned are great bows.
My 9 year old boy shoots a Bear Apprentice II. Nice little bow. #15-60lbs. 3'ish lbs. I think it comes in camo pink too for a girl. I believe I paid $250ish for a complete set up, quiver, site, (site didn't have bubble level, replaced ) Nice bow and the price is right. Mission Craze is $299 bare bones. If you've got site, quiver, etc that you can swap to new bow, that's not a huge difference in price. My oldest boy shoots the Mission Menace. It's a great bow. It seems to be dead silent. If the Craze is anything like the Menace, you can't go wrong there either. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong either way. She's going to love it either way, you're definitely going to love it, find the one that's in your budget and buy it.
Mine have Razor Edge bows. Great bows, reasonable price. I bet you can find one new old stock or very lightly used for around $200 - if you chose to go that route. Check AT. I don't have experience with the others, but I'm sure they are good as well.
Well, after lots of consideration, I ended up buying her the Hoyt Ignite. Out of all the youth bows I looked at, this bow has the best fit and finish. It really doesn't have the "look" of a youth bow. It has extreme adjustments so she is certain to be able to use it for as long as she wants. If for some reason she looses interest, my wife will be able to use it. Not that she has shown much interest. Since it can go out to 30" DL and up to 70lbs, really anyone can use this bow. I bought it at the local pro-shop, so I'll always have service for it as well. I shot it at the shop and liked how it shot pretty well. The only issue I had with it is that there's no stops on the cams, and there's a bit of spongyness with no real defined back wall. I'm used to shooting my Prime Centroid, which has a rock solid back wall. Other than that, very smooth draw, no noticeable creep even with the spongy back wall, a little more hand shock than I'm used to but not too bad. Here's a few pictures of it. Thought I better take some to share before I wrap it all up.
