You act as though the NFL as an employer is inflicting these concussions. These players are eagerly signing up to play this sport and make their claim to fame knowing full well the health risks. It's a contact sport, injuries happen.
I just think it is kind of sad. For a lot of those kids it was their ticket out of a crappy situation. It was like catching a falling star. And then, they end up butchered both mentally and physically. Ever notice how little of that you ever really get to see. The down side of making it to the big time. Heck, there are many, many more that end up crippled up and never even make it to division 1, not to mention ever getting a single dime for playing. Meanwhile, the Highschools, Colleges, and Pro-teams are all turning a buck. I guess I am just not a fan of ignoring the lasting effects of self mutilation. For most, the money that a few of the "lucky" ones make seems to make it all okay though.
.... the "crappy situation" is the root cause of their inability to handle life.... who even knows if the head trauma had anything to do with it...
1. Joe Montana comes out of retirement and plays like he did when he was 30 and never pose like he thinks he is Superman.. 2. Barry Sanders comes out of retirement and never dances after a touchdown, he just goes back to the bench because "there is work to do." 3. Mean Joe Green comes back and wreaks havoc on opposing offenses without stomping on a downed player's arm. Football will never be the same. Those guys were so much fun to watch.
You just dont get it fletch. Are you the Moses of the NFL players? Gonna lead them to a injury free flag football world of cheerfull happiness? Football = Entertainment = I will watch it, enjoy it, root for whoever i like and maybe not even feel bad if N. Suh. breaks his leg in half next week. I get hurt at my job for alot less. Im over it.
While we are at it, maybe we should ban child actors & performers/singers. None of them ever turn out leading a normal life after thier rise to fame. You can take dozens & dozens of career paths that are going to lead your mind or body or both straight to destruction. Why the whining over pro football?
It leaves one person with there panties in a wad over something they have no control over. And the other drinking coffee and slightly peeved that Micheal Crabtree didnt score more points this week. Ill let you figure out which is which
Please read it again Tony. I meant that a lot of those kids use football as their way out of a crappy situation in life. Then, the Highschool, and College just pass them through the system so they can use them to make money. At that point, the vast majority of them are just done. Barely educated and broken up, but, they provided entertainment which generated revenue. Then, the very lucky few that make it pro, end up broken physically and often mentally, and usually financially, and again, neither the league or fans apparently really give a crap. Because, its all done under the veil of entertainment. It's all a little barbaric to me.
