Just finished scouting a bit at a new location I gained permission to and there are 4 noticeable persimmon trees in an area that opens up from a known travel funnel. Also it seems like they bed in the Area very noticeable beds no cattle on the property. So long story short I put a camera close by a persimmon tree on a trail that leads to another persimmon tree that has more on it with hopes of seeing what's there the land also has two pear trees. What is your experience with this natural source of food and how do deer associate with it? Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
They are only good after that first frost in my experience. It makes them sweet. They will hit them hard and then it's over. We have a few on our property.
Well I sure hope we have a decent winter not bitter decent last year was really mild the sweeter the better I'm debating also if I still have time to put in a good plot close to a possible stand location. The grasses and briar is thick it would definitely take some intense spraying and care to get it all dead but would be the perfect place for a food plots at least a 2 acre area. The total space I'm working with is around 40 acres has a pond thickets and travel areas Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Persimmons are a great place to watch when they drop and pears are usually even better. Sounds like a very good spot that you have scouted out.
You will have a shot about any animal in the area when the persimmons start to fall. Coyote's will eat about all they can stand when they begin to fall.
If they aren't ripe they will be bitter. Deer won't touch them until they are ripe. They love them! I've patterned deer on persimmons before. Sent from my ALCATEL A845L using Tapatalk
Ok thanks I've put out some apple corn in the mean time just for inventory purposes it just seams right to me to have the camera where it is in good cover between two food sources 70 80 yards from a water source. Didn't see any noticeable rubs yesterday but I probably was looking hard enough just walked around a bit and got the lay of the land. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Yes sir I'm going back out there tomorrow to hang my stand or stands I'm gonna also do my best to get a foot plot going while I still have time. I feel like the persimmons are a bonus as well as the pear trees. I saw two good trees that I could hang stand easy over looking the persimmon tree and there is another where I wanna implement the food plot it's definitely gonna take some work. I just watched three bucks eating persimmons in my front yard. Obviously no where near ripe here in Va. This tree being loaded and is dropping the "extras". They were eating those and the largest buck was pulling them from the tree. So there you have it, they will eat them before ripe.
Wow thank you for this helpful info that's very interesting to know thanks for sharing that observation Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
