Since its a down time between seasons let's hear everyone's most remembered hunt.

My hunt actually isn't one that happened when I was young as at matter of fact it only happened about 5 months ago. It was the first time I was able to take my son deer hunting. We set up in a ground blind on some public land during a afternoon hunt. Time seem to fly by being out there with him ever squirrel or bird that moved he would perk up thinking a deer was coming. It wasn't till about a hour before dark before we actually would see any movement. About 50 yards down the woods a 9 pointer started working his way towards us. We watched him work the woods for about 30 mins before he stopped about 20 yards from us. My son had the biggest grin on his face the whole time. I decided to go ahead and take the deer not because it was the biggest deer I ever seen but because every time I look at the antlers on the wall I'll be able to remember him grinning ear to ear watching this deer. That's an awesome memorable hunt... One you will never forget. Mine will be 2012 rifle season. After hunting hard for 12 years since I was 12 I finally took an 8 pointer that scored 120. I used my nieces rifle who passed away 2 weeks after I took it so I dedicated it to her.

I wanted to drop a "Last year, my first year bowhunting, I SPOTnSTALK'ed my first ever deer with a bow, a 125lb doe."

First turkey hunt. Jake at 30 yards, shot and he hit the ground hard. I go to get him and as I am picking him up he opens his eyes and starts flopping around. I have to lay on him to finish him. Upon gutting him we found not a single pellet in the head or body. I am still questioning what happened.

The last one I went on.

But seriously. It seems every trip I take I say that was my favorite ever, until I go on the next one and swear to myself that it trumped the previous one.

If I had to narrow it down it would be Kodiak Blacktail hunt August 2009 though. 6 P&Y level animals in 11 days and the trip that got me hooked on backcountry bowhunting trips. I have a disease now.

mine would have to be one of the "one that got away" story.

i was able to hunt on the res at ft berthold in north dakota.

i made the mistake of trying to shoot a FOB through mesh (not intentionally, i just didn't expect that i'd be hunting from a blind).

biggest buck in velvet i've ever seen!

i felt like i was going to pass out when i saw him. my heart was pumping through my hair follicles.

dah well. the arrow didn't hit right. only fat, meat, and hair on the arrow with very little blood.

but when i think about it, i can still feel the chills.

The day I went hunting with my dad and father-in-law in 1993. They each scored [bucks] and I got to gut and drag both deer to the vehicles. It was the last deer for both as they passed soon after.

One will always stick out in my mind. Many moons ago I was sitting in a corner where 3 hedgerows meet overlooking a bedding area. It was towards the end of the morning hunt and about ready to pack it in when I saw an 8 pointer make his way out of the hardwoods at the far corner of the bedding area. He was about 300 yards away.

I watched him for awhile and he bedded down. Could glass him and see his rack sticking up out of the swail. I hit the grunt tube for a little bit and hung out for another hour. Then I decided to get down and see if I could stalk him. I crept all the way up the backside of one of the hedgerows until I was even with him, but still a long way away. (At this time I've blown off work lol). I hung out there for awhile on a knee glassing him. He was just laying there with his head sticking up... disappearing and sticking back up again etc.... He was facing away from me, the wind was right in my face and it was damp out. Soooooo I decided to try and get closer.

I picked a landmark (a bush standing by itself about 30 yards from him from what i could figure) and took my time to belly crawl to it. After an hour or more of that, I had no idea if I'd already been busted because I never picked my head up to see. I just stayed as low and quiet as possible until I reached the bush. After awhile I poked my head up a little bit and he was still there (about 40 yards). I took a knee and stared at him through a little peep hole in the bush. I figured I'd come this far I'm going to wait for him to get up eventually. If he gets up and goes back the way he came that will suck and I'm done. If he heads the other way I'll have a 20 yard chip shot.

After what seemed like about 4 days, he gets on his feet sticks his nose in the air wags his tail and heads down the happy trail. I'm perfectly concealed by the bush, still have the wind and he has no clue I'm there. I wait until he passes me, draw and take a nice quartering away shot. He was about 18 yards. Double lunged him and he piled up about 70 yards away in the hardwoods. Probably the coolest hunt I've ever had.

    It's hard to pick one.

My first bow kill, a doe, will always be special. My first buck will always be special. My first gobbler is a very memorable story. The jake I shot last year is special, because I had my wife with me.

My first buck encounter with a bow. High 140s 8 pointer @12 yards. I shot right under him. I was so nervous I forgot which eye to close to look through the peep sight. Largest buck to date that I have had an encounter with. That hunt sticks in my mind to this very day. I learned a lot from it!!

Mine would have to be this past year.

My Grandmother was in hospice and didn't have much time left so all I could do is talk to her on the phone when I was at camp this year, one day later I got the call that she had passed away. That evening I had a Bald Eagle flying above the field I was sitting in and less than 5 minutes later my buck I shoot this year walked out 75 yards away.

Maybe im superstitious or maybe my grandmas a reborn eagle, either way she helped me this year.
