I have no idea what my employer pays. I do know that what I pay now is significantly less than I paid for private insurance when I was self-employed. That being said, I know I'm taking it in the shorts on wages and the employer is making up for it elsewhere on me.
This is exactly why I dont plan to leave the Army anytime soon. I pay $30 for my family for dental and $30 for life insurance for the whole family. The rest is free with no deductibles, copays, or premiums. It scares me to think what I would have to pay to receive the same amount of coverage in the civilian world.
im pretty lucky, anything i've ever had was taken care of 100% not sure how that works for spouce/kids cause i have neither but its nice to know if something happens i'll be taken care of.
I've worked for my company for 11 years now and my premiums have only gone up once. My company is very good about the benefits it gives its employees.
My company pays 100% for me and my family. It is a huge blessing. It is a Non-Profit organization and that is one of the perks because the salaries are not very high. Dental is another story. they pay a very small percentage with one cleaning covered per year. Sal
Well, I was always self employed. I had my insurance through my wife's school. I always had to pay but it was a reduced amount. Now that she's died I pay through the nose every month, $625. I'm on medicare and I have the VA.... but they don't cover everything. I can go to any doctor anywhere, anytime for nothing with my private insurance. I use VA for free meds because I'm over 50 percent disabled. I have no copays or any of that. The only reason I spend the 7 grand a year for private is in case of catastropic sickness. Plus, the VA is not real responsive if I need something NOW. If I called for a doctors appointment today,,,, I'd probably get in sometime in April. VA doesn't do hearts either and I have a history there. I did see VA today to have 4 growths freezed dried off my hands and face. LOL I also use VA because I had exposure to agent orange. SO far no real big problems. I have a private civilian snotty nose doctor, a private cardiologist and between them all, I get cared for if needed.
You may want to check into dropping the private plan. Make Medicare primary if it is not already and buy a medicare supplement plan F that would cover nearly everything that Medicare does not. The plan F should be about a third the cost of your current health plan. You could use the VA for prescriptions or buy a part D policy for very little cost. Talk to a local broker that you trust and that writes medicare products. Best of luck to you.
