Likes: Rage Hypodermic (Shot a buck quartering towards me at 17 yards and it blew through the shoulder. He ran 45 yards and piled up. The broadhead still looked new after being cleaned up.) Rage 2 Blade Xtreme (Shot a doe at 20 yards while she was eating corn and it blew corn out of the exit hole. She ran 30 yards and piled up) Dislike: Muzzy 4 Blade 100 gr. (Weak Blades) Original Rage 2 Blade (Good broadhead, I just hated the O-ring)
Muzzy 100 gr 3 blade. Have tried lots of expandables and other fixed blades. The Muzzy has always dropped deer for me even on iffy shots.
Likes: Rocket Hammerheads (2" 3 blade Mechanicals for anything less than 250lbs.) Otherwise Slick Trick standards... Hammerheads seem to put a giant hole in anything I've seen shot by them (even through a shoulder on exit.) Slicks just seem to be idiot proof. (every instance was at least 90 Ft/lbs KE...theoretically.) Dislikes: Haven't shot anything without tons of testimony from the few folks I trust..new bow-hunter here. I have heard about bad experiences with some of the older Rage Mechs...but since I haven't shot them I can't really comment.
Likes - Muzzy 3 blade 100 gn. Comparisons - nothing. Dislike - Cant say, I havent tried anything else in 15 years. Lol
I have had great results from Muzzy heads. An occasional bent blade when I hit a leg bones but I tend to aim more forward than most. Worst was the Wasp Z Force... I opened the package and summarily threw them in the garbage without even shooting one. Junk with a capital J.
Likes- Slick Trick Mags 100gr and Rage chisel tips 2 blade I keep 2 of each in my quiver at all times and also a good ole judo tip.
i swear by the mx3 and swackers. the swhackers are amazing. i shot a deer from 46 yards, and it was about dark. i clipped a limb right before i hit. i was hoping i miss the deer completely, but he had been hit. i got 4 inches of penetration about a foot back from the shoulder. usually i get pass throughs, but the limb through it all off. i found that deer 60 yards away. a drop of blood here and there..when i opened that deer up, it was a blood bath. i cant describe how much blood came out..the swhackers get the job done, and youll be very please.
The best i have used are nap thunderhead edge/ razor 100gr. with the offset blades. They fly really well and have put everything I've shot with them down in a hurry. I also like magnus buzzcuts alot. Pass throughs almost every time. Worst ever....rocket meat seeker 3 blade. They flew absolutely amazing....but i lost 4 deer in one season with them.....only 4i have ever lost. I found one with the rubber band still around the blades.....no blood trail either. Also was not impressed with the original rage 2 blade....killed several deer with them but penetration sucked even shooting 70lbs....and blood trails were nothing special
Got a hog at 30 yards with a muzzy 3 blade. thought I'd try a cuton contact and got Montoc CS three blade and got a deer. currently using slick trick 100s and real pleased with those thogh nothing has fallen to them yet. but the absolutely scariest sharp broadhead I've tried is the 100 grain 2 blade samurai by Alaska bow hunting. slipped screwing one on my arrow and cut my finger to the bone. they use the single bevel and look real effective on game. hope to take them hunting in the future.
I don't kno why either.... I love the montecs! Shot 2 does last year with the same head. Both were complete pass throughs, sticking a good 4-6 inches in the ground. Last one I shot was a quarting-to shot through the shoulder blade with zero damage to the head. It is still my #1 arrow in my quiver now. As far as cutting diameter, they are basically average for a fixed blade head. They are not as sharp as I like out of the package but I can have a half dozen razor sharp in about 5-10 minutes on a sharping stone. My favorite head is the G5 Montec!!! My least favorite would be Grim Reaper Whitetail Special. The blades are just to fragile. When they break in your target one the first shot they are junk(2 out of 3).... I couldn't bring myself to even attempt them on a deer.
Only broadheads I would not use again are Snuffer SS because of difficulty in getting a good edge on it. And the T3, because one blade opened early when shooting at a turkey I stalked and had erratic flight. just didn't trust it after that.
Dirt Nap Gear's DRT hands down. Shot slick trick, grizzly and rage. DRT rocks em all. Silent Assassin = Swine's Nemesis Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Best- I really like the Slick Trick standard 100g or the magnum. They both fly extremely true, and pack a punch. I also have used thunderheads and would recommend them also. Worst- Rage 2 blade. I just got awful penetration with these broad heads.
Have to agree with hunterc I too use the g5 montecs and they have never let me down and are accurate with superb penetration. I also use grim reaper whitetail specials occasionally
