What the heck is wrong with wasp? They fly awesome. My favorite to date are the Magnus buzzcuts 150 gr.
Todd, I honestly think it was a bad pack I got. It's been years since I had them. Was the late 90's. It was like the ferrule was warped...lol. I haven't tried any since then.
I've shot muzzy's so long that I really don't know anything about other heads . If it ain't broke why try to fix it and "they're bad to the bone"
Couldn't possibly recall all that I have used, but currently and for the last couple years now my go to's are Montecs and Magnus Stingers.
Likes: NAP Hellrazor NAP Killzone 100 gr G5 Montec Crap: Some generic mechanical I purchased back in the late 90's. I ost more deer with that one pack of BHs than all others COMBINED! Wish I could remember the name?.?.? Anyways, I do like mechanicals. The 3 deer last year I killed with Killzones. One of the BHs took 2 of them (I know the manufactures advises against doing that, but I'm too frickin cheap! Plus they are easy to sharpen and adjust the tension to open).
Its hard to beat the good ol' Thunderheads. I know a guy that shoots deer for farmers on nuisance permits and shoots about 20 a year. He's tried everything and always goes back to the Thunderheads. That being said, I've been on a Steelforce Phathead SOB kick lately. They've been very good so far but haven't had a ton of experience with them yet.
Ditto. They were frighteningly sharp. LOVED them so much that I had hunters across the country looking for them for me after they were discontinued a few years ago. I still have enough for another two seasons before I have to change. Bought some as far away as Missouri. If any come across a pack of 125's please let me know. the world of marketing giant mechanicals killed the demand for the Nitron. I blame the drurys.
Liked- muzzy MX3, NAP Spitfires. Deer down. 'Nuff said. Disliked- Rage hypodermics. Deer recovered, but blade snapped w/o hitting any bone. Hated- Razorback 5s. Tiny holes and light blood trails. Lost 2 does with those. Also had one glance off shoulder on a quartering to shot. Only a tuft of hair and a sprinkle of blood. I'm in the beginning stages of putting the following heads thru some pretty tough tests right now- slick tricks, shuttle t, montecs, strikers. Montecs flew well but man is that a small hole. Post the rest of my observations as I get to shoot them all.
I have shot quite a few over the years. Bear 2 blade with bleeders, thunderhead and muzzy 3 blade, rage and swhacker 2 blade and I am sure more that I have forgot. I am now shooting solid broadheads 125 grain and this will be my first year hunting with them. I am very impressed with the way they fly and the overall quailty of the broadhead. I bought 6 this year and my goal is to not buy another broadhead for 5 years. With their warranty and quality I feel 5 years is realistic.
Best: 4 blade Magnus Buzzcuts( sharp, amazing penetration, great flight ...lacked a little in blood trails unfortunately) Worst: Wasp Jackhammer (after shooting them and trying them in practice and at targets in the preseason, I decided they were just too flimsy and shaky to to ever try on a deer) Others I've liked...Stingers, Thunderheads, Killzones, slick trick....razor tricks, magnums and standards
best- ramcat, shoot true and never had any issue with penetration. They cause a lot of damage. I have also used Rage 3 blade- close second in my book
Except that G5 makes them. i tried the very first generation of montecs like a decade ago. What a huge mistake that was, those broad heads were crazy dull. The next generation of montecs eliminated that problem after the company realized it had an issue but it was too late for me. I will never buy a G5 anything. I'm eyeing simple broadhead designs like muzzy or slick trick.
How could I forget to hate on Grim Reapers? Flimsy and erratic flight. Have too much respect for my quarry to try and kill one with such junk.
