The past two weeks I've been working day and night turning up a new network in southern IL, KY and TN for my growing company. Just yesterday I drove to Memphis and back to St Louis then back to TN and then to Marion, IL. This is just an example of my normal day. Anyways, the advantages to all this driving is seeing first hand the deer movements. Starting last Wednesday I've seen many young bucks chasing does. In fact yesterday afternoon I saw 3 does cross the road infront of me with a little 6 right behind them nose to the ground.
I saw 2 young bucks Saturday come by with their noses to the ground and my son saw 1. But the buck my son shot was still in a bachelor group of 3 older deer. These deer were atleast 2 1/2 This is in western ky. Webster co Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I'm seeing a mixture. Young bucks still together when they were in bachelor groups with more mature bucks in September as evidenced in trailcam photos, but those young bucks are also chasing.
I have 2 big scapes in front of my favorite rut stand. Sat there last night for the first time and had 3 seperate does come through and all 3 checked the scrapes. Minutes later after the last doe i had a little basket 8 come in nose to the ground and paw one of the scrapes and lick the branch...have a trail cam set up on the scrapes and checked the card last night to find 9 different bucks are all hitting the scrapes with 4 of them hitting it mid morning and one even mid day..but that night i also saw 3 bucks that were traveling together. Things are just starting to happen. This weekend should be interesting in iowa.
Had a doe pee right in front of me last Saturday and within 10 minutes I had a young 4pt come right in to where she peed. He followed her trail where she walked out on and he chased her around for a minute. I went back to the same area to find several fresh scrapes from this morning and set up my camera on a mock scrape that I made. It's definitely heating up here in NY.
If I can ever stick around town long enough I'd like to actually go hunting. I made a mock scrape last week and set a camera on it. I used the "How to pre on a scrape" method. I should have set up the camera to better illustrate the madness behind my technique. Well I'll get down there soon enough.
my group has a nice property we hunt together. Last 2 days, two 150 class bucks were taken with archery. Both bucks came into urine estrous scents hours before last light, and one of them was downwind of the hunter too. And still came marching in. Up here even the big boys are getting all horned up
