    I was stupid.

I retired and bought this place in 2018. It's all woods on two sides of a gravel road. It's only 8.5 acres total, with 4 acres on one side of the road and 4.5 acres on the other.

The woods on the west side are fairly decent and while it's been pretty good hunting, the activity and the dogs have had a terrible impact on deer traffic through there.

The other side had a fence that I "assumed" was the property boundary. That's where the stupid comes in. I always thought it was kinda small to be 4+ acres, but I never gave it much thought.

The area inside the fence had been cleared years ago for horses. It's now grown up and is a great bedding area, but there are very few places to hunt it. I've hunted it, though, at the east fence line and I cant tell you how many deer I've watched and heard traveling east of the fence.

I finally downloaded OnX and was looking at it today on stand. Yeah, that east fence doesn't even go halfway back to the end of my property. My wife and I walked it after I got down and there is a lot of sign. Not only is there good deer sign but I also found hog sign.

I've gotten a few pics of good bucks on the fenced portion, but only occasionally when they come off of what I thought was someone else's property.

As soon as we got back to where I'd hunted this morning I took my climber off that tree and moved it to my "new" old property.

    I'm kinda excited.

That is awesome. Can you hunt hogs year round on private land? Kill them all!

Ha! Well at least your "stupid" had an awesome result. All my "stupids" normally don't turn out so well.

    Here are two pics.

One is a shot of our entire property.

The other is a pic of what OnX showed as my location when I got down and walked to what I thought was the SE corner.

I’m not sure which is inaccurate, the GPS spot or the OnX property lines.

And here’s a pic that came from the neighbor’s property. The cam is about 250 yards from where I put my climber to hunt this evening. Adjustments.jpg

I’d have to check on the legality of all year, but I know it’s legal to shoot them here.

Maybe I should look into how to butcher a hog. Never done that before and I know it’s done differently.

Chief you should have gotten a plot plan survey when you bought property. County office of planning/ zoning will have plot plans also. Most of these mapping sites get their property lines from these.

Yeah, I know I should have but I had seen enough of the property that we knew we wanted it.

Like I said, my wife and I walked it today and we found the back property markers. Of course, us walking it really messed up the hunting this evening. Big old smart doe started blowing and stomping when she hit where we'd walked. Oh well. I'll just make her the primary target.
