This was killed last year 3 miles from me just crows hop from my hunt club. Weighed 160 lbs Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
The biggest deer we have are in the southwest part of the state. Mountain deer. My brother killed an 8pt that I missed just mins before in the mts. He weighed 228 lbs live weight. here in the eastern part of the state, we call it the tidewater region, they are small. a big deer here is 180 lbs. 235 dressed would be about 260ish I assume? that's a damn mule son!
I'm not sure what had happened in mn/ ND bit 200 dressed deer were fairly common 20 years ago Usually took a 230 240 to win our local conteset. Now, 210 is a good deer and will win.
Ave age and quality of food would probably be the determining factors. And probably harshness of winters if it’s been worse. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
The two biggest body bucks that I've shot, one about 130" and the other 125", dressed out hanging...gutted, skinned, legs and head removed, went 147 lbs and 145 lbs. We've never weighed them except for when it's still warm enough we have to take them to a cooler. These days enough buddies have cool bot's that I don't ever go to a commercial cooler anymore. I have another buck that I shot early in October that was full of garbanzo beans, I think he would've weighed out pretty decent too. Side note, if I ever see a deer in a garbanzo bean field I will be shooting it. Best eating deer I've ever gotten.
I love it too. Starts getting me ramped up for cool September mornings in the elk woods. I love how the air feels and smells when we start coming out of summer.
It has actually been decent here the past few days...85-90 for a high. less humid.. we just got 12" of rain last saturday so it's soaking wet
Not much moisture in zero degree air. It's the wind. Had a guy in my unit transfer to our base in Jan. He is out side in -5 degree weather with a shirt and sweater. We all looked at him like he was nuts. Turns out he just came from Alaska where it was -40 or lower and wind chills to -60 to -80. Its all relative. I'm with Sota. I sweat bad when it is humid. I should have stayed in CO when I got out of the service. 90 degrees at 6500 feet is great! Humidity? 10%
Bear season starts Sept 1st. Bought my tag today but really have zero interest until things cool down( late sept- early October). I'm solo for the first time since 1986. Told my regular pals n family I'm done with the bear thing. I know I'll be sad on opener as I've always enjoyed bear camp life but time to call it quits.
Just burnt out. The mud, mess, mosquitos. I love bear meat so will most likely keep killing them for that reason.
