Went to Montana a few years back on a coyote calling mission. Was -37 at daybreak and the high was -24. Was a brutal day of hunting but holy hell did the coyotes come in!!
It is funny we get a cold snap with highs below zero and windchill for a week. After that it is amazing how good 10 degrees with no wind feels.
I've lived in Missouri this time for 4 years and I'm about as far north as I care to be. Not a fan of long winters. Born and raised in the mountains of NC and spent most of my life there. I was just talking about the Northern folks on here being alright was all. And yes the heat and humidity is...unique down there. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
First 22 years of my life were in NY, the balance living in GA or NC. I tell folks here I'm bilingual, speaking both Yankee and sweet tea. There are trade offs. I'm glad I left NY though. But wish NC had decent sized deer.
Yeah, Bill, the deer are a bit small there, but the numbers are up since I left. I send deer pics from here to my buddies back home to drive them nuts.
You're right about this. I've always thought that a nice winter day would be sunny, calm and 25 degrees. However, after experiencing what you have described, I'm amazed that I now find a sunny, calm 10 degree day quite comfortable!
Best time to hunt them. When the ground has been froze solid for several days so they can't dig mice, they are HUNGRY.
I really like living where I get to experience all four seasons. Heck, the Pacific Northwest may give you all of them in one day's time! In all honesty summer is my least favorite of the seasons. It is a dry heat here, but Sunday was 110, Monday was 108, and yesterday was 101. NO THANKS! Add a little humidity...don't know how you southerners can get used to that crud. I used to be able to tolerate some pretty cold temps, but not near as much now. But I've always hated weather over 80°, and would much rather it be 60-65° or so. Probably why I like Spring and Fall the best.
down here in VA we literally have 140-160+" bucks running around at 130-150 lbs...the damnedest thing you ever saw..the buck in my avatar, 22" wide 4" bases and he weighed 140 lbs
