I've seen a few, unfortunately it was when I was younger on public land following with my Dad. I've never seen one on my hunting land, but if I ever get a chance at another(in season) with my bow I think it would make a nice little mantle decoration.

Or another would be a red squirrel, we call them Mountain Boomers here.

I wouldn't mind a fox squirrel either, they're pretty common here though.

Black ones are common in Canada. There were several in a small town here (PA) locally some years ago but I haven't seen any there in years.

I had this blonde one here at the house for a couple years. He would disappear for months at a time and just when I thought he was gone forever, he'd reappear. I don't know what the life expectancy of a squirrel is so finally after a near 3 years of seeing and not seeing him, last season I took him.

Black squirrels everywhere in my part of NJ.

When we were younger, people used to say that they were a result of a wierd experiment at Princeton University. My mother quickly debunked this myth, when she informed us that she had black squirrels in KY and CT.

Where ever it is that they originated- they sure as heck love NJ.....AND, they're MEAN !! You can watch them "bully" the grey squirrels, all day long.

No kidding, there are a ton of them in Washington DC and just outside DC in Arlington VA. They are technically grey squirrels, just the black phase.

I had a beautiful black fox squirrel on our land abous 7yrs ago....his body was all black, tail was red. I kept saying I was gonna go hunt him in the late small game season, but never did. Right now I have an all white fox squirrel with a red tail that lives about 300yds behind my house. I've seen him bowhunting the past 3 seasons....but we have not been able to connect on him during small game. My son wants him bad....and it would make a beautiful mount!

There is a town right on the other side of the border of PA and NJ that it seems like that's all there are is black squirrels. I'd definitely like to get one mounted.

I live here in NW Ohio. I was raised and lived in Van Wert all my life, and 12 years ago moved in a real small town Convoy, which is only a few miles from Van Wert. I am 44 now, but about my freshman year in HS, the black squirrels started showing up. Now they are everywhere. I mean everywhere. I gurantee you that I could walk out my door right now, and walk a block or so and I will see at least 5 or 6. In the towns , the black squirrels outnumer the fox sq. by probably 5 or 6 to one. But what is weird is that out in the woods, it is all fox squirrels. I swear that last year, I saw the first black one in the woods ever, even though the towns are full of them.
Like someone else posted, they are very very aggressive and mean. They will gang up on the fox sq. and run them out.
