Go read it again. He's also eluding to the fact that they have it tougher.....due to beating up on one another. Hate the messenger........but that part of the message is correct.
Compare their deal to anyone... NBC is paying a ridiculous amount of money to carry their game. Take the whole SEC deal and divide it by the number of teams there are in that conference... now compare that to what Notre Dame is getting single handily.
Gotcha. So what you're really saying is....they have the biggest deal compared to the other independents (I can't think of any more, actually). The SEC TV deal is off the charts. It affords them the best coaches; facilities; etc...; etc...; etc... . But, we're straying from the original *****ing.
I see what you are saying Jeff but I don't sympathize with the whining that they (Florida) had a poor season because they got beat up by better competition so I have to write an article puffing their chest that Auburn won the NC. When OSU won the NC in 2003 I sure as hell didn't brag about the Badgers being great because they lost to OSU. If OSU would of won any/all of the NC games recently I would not be bragging how great the Badgers are. If the Big Ten would of won all of it's bowl games you sure as heck would not heard a peep out of me about how great the Big Ten is. I'm sure as hell not bragging that OSU beat Arkansas in the Sugar. Why? I was tied to either bragging or having my tail tucked on the result of the Rose Bowl. See what I am saying?
Has that changed Buckeye since the Big Ten network? If what you are saying is true that changed recently in the last couple of years. ND had this title for many years.
Notre Dame is 9 million per year. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3452161 There are 11 Big Ten Teams (right now). Are they getting more than 99 million per year?
It has been a couple years. Big 10 schools each earn about $25 million per year through the conference.
Just TV coverage of the games? To compare apples to apples, you can't compare all of the Big Ten network revenue, etc. I'd also like to look up what the SEC is making per team per year from CBS.
According to this and my math........ http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/stewart_mandel/07/24/sec-espn/index.html I divided the 2.25 billion by the 15 years and then by the 12 teams and I get 12.5million per team per year. So yes the SEC does get about 28% more per team than Notre Dame. Sweet Jesus.
The money is split evenly between all schools in the Big 10. Not like the Big 12 who divides it up unequally among those who contribute the most to the least within the conference. So what I said is an accurate statistic, not a shot in the dark.
I was laughing at the "per school" addition. Seems unnecessary. Is your statement accurate, sans that part?
The conference made aprox 225 million dollars last year. They took the 11 schools and divided it equally among them. Word it however you like.
Let me throw out something....... So the SEC fans look silly (to me at least) and the SEC writers thump their chests about other teams in the conference so the SEC gets better TV contracts? I don't think the SEC got a better contract because they chant and write stuff. They got the contract because they are the best football conference. They just need stop nauseating bragging about conference strength and cheer for your team to win. Start worrying more about team perception and less about conference perception. Pretty simple.
So....we're back to you agreeing with the message....and hating the messenger. I get that. I understand why you feel that way.
