I shot the first two coyotes I have ever called in tonight, I just started trying to call this year. I got set up at 5:00, and right as I set down they let loose howling down in the draw I was overlooking. There was at least 4, judging by where the howls were coming from. After about 20 minutes of distress calling, I see two coyotes making there way towards me through the snow. They disappeared behind some cedars and I didn't see them again. About 5 minutes later I see another yote coming from the same direction. It does the same thing the first two did, but then all 3 of them start heading my way after some lip squeeks. Finally they get to within 20 yards and I shoot the first one, put another bullet in, and by then they are booking it away from me. (surprisingly, a single shot .223 isn't a very fast shooter :D) I shoot the second one at about 150 yards on a dead run, and ended up having to track him. I found him in two cedar trees bedded down, but one shot from my .44 mag finished him off. Overall, it was a very fun evening, and I got a lot more confidence in calling predators.
Cole, your more than welcome to come out and have dinner one evening and take out a few of these yotes around here. I was watching one yesterday digging around in the field accross from the house while I was feeding the Dogs. Wish I still had Ma Bell, would have loved to turned it inside out at 5! Congrats on the ones you got, thats awesome.
WOW, a double on your first soot....with a single shot, doesn't get any better then that!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATS!
I might actually take you up on that. Me and a buddy are going coyote hunting all day tomorrow, and we might run out of spots by the end of the day Thanks for all the congrats everybody. I'm used to just shooting them standing next to my truck when I happen to see them, but this calling stuff is addicting
