I went out for my first sit in a treestand this season, this morning. I got settled in well before daylight and started the waiting game. A deer walked by my stand while it was still way shooting light. Then, I heard a deer coming at around 7:45..from behind me:bash:. It was a lone doe, she walked right up the trail that I had taken to my stand, and when she got strait downwind of me...the jig was up, she vanished.

I was frustrated after that. I though I had the deer in this spot figured out, but I guess this shows how much I know:deer:. I have NEVER seen a deer come from that direction, that's why I use that path to get to my stand.

But I didn't have long to hunt this morning since I have a bunch of realtives in town this weekend, so about 8:15 I climed down. I had just stepped onto the ground and taken maybe 1 step when I heard something running around in the brush. I looked over and saw what I thought was a racoon, but it was actually a very mangy coyote. After I realized it was a coyote I started trying to nock an arrow and see if I could put the guy out of his misery. He ran a half cirle around, anywhere from 10 to 20 yards away. He was obvioulsy very sick and needed to be put down. I made a couple little noises and finally got him stopped at 20 yards and let an arrow fly. A 20 yard tracking job and 45 seconds later, there he was.

I'll be back at it this afternoon. In pursuit of deer this time:d

P.S. That is the exit wound you are seeing. He was quartering toward me somewhat. The entry wasn't that far back.

Damn, that looks like a Dingo! Pretty bad case of mange to loose all his fur like that. You probably did him a huge favor.
