Nah I have no problem admitting I am a pansie and can't take the heat. Sweating has to be one of my most hated bodily functions. How any work gets done in the south is beyond me.
This is what happened last time I went to Arkansas. So, yes, it does get cold down there. Surprisingly, there were no locals on the water...or on the roads Trout fishing was good though!
I live in NW Oregon, I like to call it, Pacific Wonderland. We will have a high in the low 70's today.
To you southerners, what's the dew point like down there when It's hot? For the record, I'll take the heat any day of the week over minus zero temps. I hate winter, I work In this **** outside. If It wasn't for my job, I wouldn't mind It then.
How miserable is it working in the heat though? I'm calling the cold the lesser of two evils IMO. If anything, when I'm working outside in the cold I move faster. If I have to work outside in the heat I slow wayyyyyyy down.
Well since we have been in an historic drought the past couple of months, the humidity actually hasn't been that bad. It's been dry, windy, and triple digits, much like west Texas. Today, though, it is just 95 degrees, but the humidity is back at around 70%. Yay.
Meh, I was going off of historic weather reports from Wunderground. That's what I get for taking such a cursory scan. Still, I'll take cold over hot any day. I worked outdoors for one of the worst summers in Illinois history, constant temperatures in the 110s and 100% humidity. You get used to it, but it's still a *****.
Temps are definitely what you make of them. It's already been in the 90's inside my house many times this summer. Doesn't really bother me. I go out in the sun and pull weeds/hoe and otherwise tend the garden. I enjoy the feeling of the strong summer sun on my skin. I think it would kind of suck to be a roofer or other outdoor job tho'. When I was in North Dakota, there were weeks of subzero temperatures. I think we ten straight days where it never got above -20. Another day it was -45, with a windchill of -110. I was still going out and checking traps in that weather. I'd rather have moderate temps like anybody else... but whatever it is, I try to roll with it.
So far, it's only been hot and humid enough to put a fan on the broiler chicks for one day. I think the heat index was 105 that day.
It's been around 100 or better here in Arkansas for more than two weeks. I just checked my trail cam and I had some pics with the temperature up to 114 in the shade! I not sure it's accurate, but it's not far off.
Humidity Isn't what makes life miserable when It's hot and sticky, high dew points do. 95% of the time when we get 90 degree plus temps up here the dew point Is usually up there as well so It's usually always hot and sticky. Not a fun heat to work In but I'll take It over -20 any day.
Here's a post on my facebook wall from Dan He isn't as tough as he claims Dan Schafer Going to wait until next weekend here. Too damn hot during the week for me to be planting.
LOL! True that. How many broilers do you have now? How old? I'm going to wait another month or so before I get my next batch. I let a couple from the last batch go to 13 weeks, they were like chicken tanks.
