I'm from mass. I plan on going out west to hunt muleys. To pack the meat back are yeti coolers worth the price tag they have or is there a cooler you recommend?
Easily the best coolers made. And way out of my budget so something I am sure I will never own but wish I would!
I have packed bear meat back home from Canada (about a 14 hour trip) in a large quart regular Igloo brand cooler with dry ice packs and with regular freezer packs. The cooler was then outside of the vehicle on a rack in the sun. Boths ways the meat was fine, however the dry ice definately kept the frozen meat frozen longer. Good luck!
They are top quality for sure. If you have a use for the cooler on a regular basis after the trip then I would pay the extra and get a yeti. If its going to be something that you will rarely use then a white igloo cooler at a 1/3 the price will do well enough for the trip. I love my yeti and use it regularly, it was worth the price to me. I would rather spend a little more on a one time purchase of an item like that when there is a substantial difference in quality.
Yeti does make a outstanding cooler. It's just hard for a common joe like myself to justify the cost for occasional use. If I was a guide or something of that nature there would be no question about the purchase. Igloo also came out with a similar cooler this year. The "Yukon". It may be worth a look. I have no idea what they cost....
I've got a 150 qt white igloo cooler and don't see myself ever needing anything any better. I regularly road trip between Kansas and New Hampshire (roughly a 30 hour trip with stops) and dry ice will keep everything frozen solid no problem
On a fishing trip to Canada we took this cooler with ice cream and dry ice along with us into the 'bush'... Left the cooler alone in the shade (didn't open it). On day 5 we opened it up and the ice cream was still froze solid.... That was probably 7ish years ago and many other hunting/fishing trips later and it's still going strong... IMO - Save the money and put towards your trips other expenses... http://www.walmart.com/ip/Coleman-70-Quart-Xtreme-Cooler/4807332 Hate to say it, but a really nice cooler like that (Yeti) may be more likely to grow legs and walk away from camp or vehicle....
I have the next to biggest one and I have to say I am not impressed with it. It is made out of top notch material but it really didn't keep ice as long as I thought it would. I went on a turkey hunting trip this past turkey season with some guys and I had my Yeti and a friend had some other cooler the same size but is was about $200 less. When we returned home He had just as much ice in his as I did. we were both transporting the same stuff for the same amount of time back and forth to the same location...It was a present to me but if I had my choice I would not have gotten it....
That is the first time I have heard that NC_Bowhunter. Interesting to hear someone not happy with it. I am in the market for a new cooler but just gonna go with an Igloo for cost.
Well like I said man as far as it's toughness....well it is just tough. I love how it is made but $400 bucks and it kept ice about as long as a $150-$200 cooler.....I mean c'mon....The other cooler was well made but I am pretty sure it was not Bear proof like the yeti's are supposed to be lol....
You won't find a better one for toughness, but I dont know about you but I don't throw mine off any cliffs. I take two Coleman extremes and they hold ice just fine for my trips out west. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
