Well those guys in Qatar or wherever aren't leaving for at least a year. They may be able to do limited operations but I'm sure we'd be listening in. As for rebuilding yes, probably by pulling out, but the American public did not want us there. Iraq didn't either.
Even if we destroyed Al Qaeda, another extremist sect would just move in. It's not the organization, it is the ideals that would be impossible to dissolve.
So, what are we to do? I don't have all the answers but I'd rather the fight be on their soil than ours.
If we had stayed in Iraq another ten years it would have only delayed this collapse, not prevented it. I strongly dislike Obama, I don't dislike George W. Bush, I have been wounded in Iraq, and I have seen friends die there, even after all that I can't think of any good reason for us to have stayed there any longer.
I said this a long time ago......If those bastards wanted war then U.S. should reap the benefits of dominating a county militarily. We should have sucked that oil dry to pay for all the war costs. Then we should have seized party of Iraq as our own to pump oil out of for our good. We get too PC these days. Hell we went to war...why the hell are we playing patty cake with a bastard country like Iraq when we win? I will never understand.
Anybody in America still not believe Obama doesn't give a rats arse about our country and has sold to the Leftist, Soros and now Al Qaeda? Americans being evacuated from Iraqi air base as militants advance | Fox News
One thing that article indirectly outlines is that we should have done more in syria and won the battles over there.
Violate international sanction placed upon them, thereby endangering the United States. And since we are the world power we had to act, unless international sanctions and our authority mean nothing.
^^^^^this. Either total war or nothing. Has there ever been a time in history when an occupying force has won the "hearts and minds" of the occupied? I'm not saying that we should or shouldn't have invaded Iraq or Afghanistan. To be honest I have changed my opinion on this several times. I just think we should be smarter than going into a country to "rebuild" or set up a democracy when that country doesn't want us there. It's a waste of American lives and dollars.
to answer your question, yes. but it took years. past civilizations or empires assimilated many people into their society and let them become a part of their empire. Afghanistan and Iraq are also different since we never planned on staying. As for historical cases on situations like this, none come to mind. then again globalism and public opinion has never been as important as now.
I'd argue that it wasnt. They ruled through dictatorship, not really but kind of. Can you give any examples of the things you put in bold on how the Roman Empire was strongly influenced by?
I never agreed with going to war in Iraq. I ain't going to point any fingers as to whose fault it was that we ended up over there. Fact is we were there. We had a job to do. The job was not completed. We lost a lot of good soldiers. People were calling for bringing the troops home. Obama said he would do it just as a political move. This shouldn't have been a political decision or a people decision. When the troops come home should have been a military decision. Pull out too early, and this is what happens.
Not attacking you by any means, but many of you speak of "military decisions" there are no military decisions. Politicians rule them, military simply executes those orders. Obama did it as a political move, and so did McCain.
