If we're not focused on Afghanistan, what exactly are our 68,000 troops doing over there as we speak?

That's not our job, if it is our Job we have let a lot of tyrants do worse and not left a damn finger. The people of Iraq have to want change, we can not bomb change into them and we have proven that.

North Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, China, anyone of a few countries in Africa. How about Chicago? Do you think if Chicago was sitting on a pool of oil we would let it self destruct?

So are you in favor of permanent forces in Iraq? Because that is what it would take to keep whatever extremist religious group from taking over almost all of those countries in that region.

We were not focused, not are. read about the wars skywalker. If Iraq had not been there and we had focused on Afghanistan we may have been better off. We let AQ rebuild after 2004 which was a huge mistake.

Sky, at what point would you say that Iraq is/was a lost cause and just cut your losses?

    Never?

I meant that the entire region is unstable and at least in some facet harbors terrorism. I am not saying that Iraq was justified, but given the situation that was going on at the time....... well you kinda gotta expect we would knock on that door.

My point has nothing to do with the whether or not it was right or wrong to be there. We were already there. My point was, Americans died to establish stability in Iraq. If that stability disappears than their sacrifices were for nothing. The exact same thing happened in Vietnam.

and why iraq? tons of other countries nearby who host terrorism. iraq would not have done much, Iran or better yet Pakistan would have been a far better more effective target. we had no reason to go to Iraq for 911 in comparison to the other neighbors.

I'm in favor of the President taking the advice of the commanders in the military. The kinda know what they are doing.

actually the way you wrote it, we had a right to be there. The point you make of Americans dying for nothing happens everyday and is a moot argument in comparison to your original post.

There is no way of solving the issues in the Middle East.. Thousands of years of turmoil have proven that

You want their oil conquer and command! Other wise leave them to their wars and let them self destruct!

skywalker. everyone knew it was best to stay, guess what, you can't stay in office if you don't follow the publics interest. either president was going to go down this route, you're trying to blame one erroneously.

OMG, please go back and re-read my original post. Actually here, I'll just quote it:

Many Americans lost their lives in the fight to bring stability to Iraq. Whether you feel like it was our place to be there or not, the facts are we were and many Americans paid the ultimate price to help bring freedom to other places in the world. We sit here today watching as Al Qaeda is posed to take Baghdad as they have already taken Mosul and Tikrit.
Many people warned this administration that a withdraw of troops in 2011 would be a poor decisions, but hey Obama had an election to win. So, he gave the orders and withdrew the troops. Not because the job was done and we were confident that they could stand on their own, but because Obama decided to play politics instead of Commander-in-Chief.
Yet another failure of this administration, and quite frankly a failure of the American people for not recognizing just how poor of a leader he is. I feel for everyone that lost a friend or family member to the war in Iraq because apparently their sacrifice was for not.

So how many more do we sacrifice? 10,000?, 20,000?
