After today's sit, I'm packing up this blind to move to a spot that hasn't been hunted yet thus year. It should be a good travel route as well as feeding location for the late season. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.
Well it's that dreaded time of the year..... Gun season I will be working all weekend. Here's. Link to my new Facebook page that will eventually become a place for reviews and products for sale. Give it a like if you guys want. BowHunters Only Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I started the season shooting Montec broadheads from my old Jennings bow. Shortly after taking my doe on opening day, I upgraded to my Synergy. I had problems getting the Montec to fly straight so I got some mechanicals to get by with. Today I had the chance to get back to the bow shop and I picked up a pack of Slick Trick standards. I went out to once again try and broadhead tune. To my surprise, I found that the Tricks flew and impacted right on the money with my field tips clear out to 40 yards with no adjustments needed. I hope to get the chance to see how they perform in a real life hunting situation.
I shot a nice buck this evening. Tracked a blood trail for two hours, almost 200 yards in the dark. Finally had to give it up when the trees and brush got thick enough that I was having trouble keeping my bearings. I'm headed back out tomorrow after work. Didn't find the arrow which isn't a big surprise due to how thick the grass is. However, he gave a good kick before taking off so I'm a little surprised at how long the trail is turning out to be.
I got skunked all weekend. Walk into the woods at work this morning...basket 8, 130", and 145" chasing a hot doe 15 yards from me. Gotta love it!
For the second time in a row, I have an unhappy ending to my story. I tracked for a full half mile then the trail abruptly ended. Someone with more experience please help. Would a shoulder hit produce what I saw after the shot? A jump-kick, blood trail that doesn't start for 30 to 40 yards no arrow found and a trail of blood that drags on forever and then abruptly stops. I have to admit that my confidence is pretty shaken right now.
Well I certainly dont have more experience to help you but I have heard that a shoulder shot is loud, like snapping a 2x4. I guess I was under the impression you would be able to distinctly hear it, maybe not.
I really don't know how much. I couldn't see my arrow nor did I find it. However, the blood was always on the left side of the trail which would lead me to assume that there was only one hole. No pass through. I'm seriously considering switching to lighted nocks to hopefully be able to gain more information about the shot in cases like this. Does anybody have plans to hunt over the holiday weekend? I'm thinking that I may get out again on Saturday.
Happy turkey day! I'll be out with the bow tomorrow morning and the shotgun at some point this weekend. "Tipsy" is still hanging around looking for ladies. I'm not sure he's even a shooter though... Velvet Last year
Tipsy made an appearance...at 120 yards, on the neighbor property. I called like a crazy person, but he wasn't interested.
Keep at it fellas, I am pretty sure we have a couple of bucks that need to be entered on the scorecard page. My bow season is over, so no doe for me to add to our score
I'm still at it for a few more weeks. I'm done holding out for big bucks. I will take a few does this late in the year. BowHunters Only Like and share
I probably shouldn't take the shotgun out tomorrow...season doesn't open til Monday. Glad I checked those dates again!
