Havent been on here in awhile but closing in on a booner. Had him on sept 22 and oct 12 by me both times out of range waiting on the cold front thursday to hunt him again. Other then that ive passed up around 10 bucks so far this year 2 solid 140s that need a couple more years. Should be starting to pick up next week. Hunting one deer becomes beyond frustrating sometimes.

12 days til MO! Can't wait to get after some big deer. Too hot for much activity as of late. Come on cold front, or cool front even.

The last 2 weeks were crazy with my dad in town to hunt. We got shot at and kicked off our new hunting property because of a misunderstanding within the owner's family. We hunted a couple of my smaller properties, but only saw a handful of does. I plan to hunt the cold front this weekend and then hit it hard Oct 29-Nov 6.

Say what!? Please expound on the above story. First off they shot at you!? Second, how was there a misunderstanding? I'm curious more to try and learn something from your experience so this doesnt happen to me!

    Yes, please share!

Sometimes the best hunting stories don't include an appearance from the game being hunted.

A friend from work invited us to hunt his 300 acres, so we jumped all over it. I went out with the guy to scout, start food plots, hang stands and cams, etc. Fast forward 3 months. My dad arrived in town from AZ, buys a tag and license, and we get my work buddy to sign the ODNR required permission slip to hunt private land. We went out for the first sit, on opposite ends of the property, and at 6:30pm I got a call from my dad that somebody shot about 50 rounds into the woodlot he was sitting in...bullets buzzing through the leaves over his head. I called my work buddy who said all the neighbors are his wife's relatives and he said he would have her make some calls. The next day I got 20 texts from the wife saying that her brother is the actual owner of the property and that, while my buddy had permission to bring friends on the property, he didn't want us hunting out there alone. Then she started telling me what I could and couldn't tell her brother...like the fact that my buddy signed the permission slip and she wanted me to say that he didn't know we would be out there without him. My dad and I went out the next morning and took down all the gear I had on the property, including stands that were supposed to be "community stands" for my buddy and his family. So this dude pretty much set us up for failure and I'm never setting foot on the property again! Luckily, he took a side project out of state so we haven't had the awkward chat yet...

And none of the neighbors/relatives ever admitted to shooting at my dad.

If had a few bullets buzz by me while hunting as well. All people who were shooting without a proper backstop. Scary stuff... Glad everyone is ok. Bummer it didn't work out for your Dad. Keep at it!

Looks like the weather is finally about to turn here. Cold front coming, possible snowflakes on sat morning is a good thing. Few little bucks on their feet but hoping this gets things started. Headed out out in the am, wet or not. Got the itch.

I headed out this afternoon but found that the farm was being harvested so I headed back home.

Saturday morning is next up for me as well.

Just a personal opinion here, but I've had some of my best sits while the combine was in the field. I've had occasions where the deer come out of the corn while they are cutting and walk the tree lines, I've also had them come out of the woods to just inside the tree line and wait, as if the combine was a dinner bell. I love hunting when they are cutting. Not to mention it covers up your entry and exit with all the noise.

I hadn't thought of that. I guess they live with farm equipment and activity every year.

I got out yesterday morning and had a little 7 point follow the script perfectly. Would have been a 22 yard shot if he were 60" bigger. A mature buck that I call "Vlad the Impaler" has been showing up day and night for the last week. He'll be #1 on my hit list during the rut vacation.
