I took my third doe this morning at 7:16 am. She was walking behind me at 20 yards. She went behind some cover and I came to full draw. When she came out I gave a soft whistle and she stopped to look. It was a beauty of a shot - double lung/top of the heart passthru. I heard her crash about 70 yards away so I sat for a little over a half hour and walked over to her. She had crashed and rolled down a small gulley so I walked down to her and started to drag her the short 10 yards to the trail. I was almost there when my foot hit a hole and I twisted my ankle a bit. It was nothing, though, so I grabbed on again and gave one last surge and I was there. That's when I felt the first stab of pain on the back of my neck. Then another pain on the left side of my face. It took me about 2 seconds to realize what I'd just done, and that's about how long it took the yellowjackets to decide to attack in force. As luck would have it, the trail from that point went downhill and I took off down the hill with a cloud of the little buggers tagging me every chance they got. I knew from experience that they were probably all over my clothing so I started shedding what clothing I could as I ran. I found out that I can still run pretty darned fast and I can do it while shedding clothing, but I still ended up getting stung 22 times (I think). Things probably would have turned out worse for me had I not been wearing my ASAT 3D suit. Since I had taken my mask off before I got down the majority of the stings were above the neck line. As a result I was pretty miserable when I was skinning her and quartering her. Before anyone asks, no pics of this deer or my swollen face were taken.
Congrats on the doe and that sucks bout the yellow jackets. I have been there... stood on a nest while fishing... as soon as I moved my foot it was all over! They tagged me more times than I care to remember and I rode home in the bed of a truck in just my underwear as they were all over my clothes and even in my shoes.
well look on the good side, didnt get stung 23, 24, 25....times just to fast for the other ones to catch u
