I would love to work by the hour instead of salary. Sign me up;) There are two sides of the coin for salary workers. It's expected if something breaks at 1:00 AM, I fix it.

I could careless about a bonus and I do get them throughout the year. To me working with good people, having an owner who cares and the culture of the company is more important.

I understand where you're coming from - touche. Great point.

And I also agree with your last paragraph!

they said it right, im not allowed to comment on that stuff (we cant play fantasy football, or arent supposed to for that matter. by the time i leave work each day i'm about done with football. oh no bowl betting or march madness either!) but will tell you that we post an injury report each week. and isnt the unknown half the fun of fantasy ball. you get to feel kinda whats its like for folks who make those decisions in real life! you never know what is gonna happen! =-)

You and a couple others are missing the whole point. I'm entitled to that bonus. It's in my contract that I signed. The point is that I'm being penalized for the budget that was created by a guy on his way out the door. You can think what you want, but I donate at least 20 hours of my time each week to the company seeing how I'm salary and normally work a 12 hour day. That was my money and I got hosed.

But you didn't meet the budget. Does your contract say you automatically get a raised if you are still employed, or does it say your receive a bonus if you meet the budget?

Again, your missing the point. I said from the beginning I didn't meet the budget, but I didn't create it. When I took over I said from the get go that this was not going to work. If I had made my budget and then didn't meet it, I would have no problem not getting a dime.

You referenced a contract, what are the qualifications/stipulations required to receive a bonus?

I'm not saying it isn't BS they held you to a poorly designed budget that you had no say in, but I don't get how they owe you money.

I don't know what you do, how your company is structured or how you compare to the rest of their employees. Lets just say you are the hardest working employee, doing an indespensible job and you have gone above and beyond your job discription. If you contract is structured based on someone else's unrealistic budget that is still your fault for signing that contract. If you are in a structured enviroment and your boss doesn't have a discretionary element then the numbers are the numbers.

Make sure you don't ever agree with anything that you don't understand or that you know isn't possible.

The very definition of a bonus means that you are not ENTITLED to it.

Should you have had a more realistic budget? Maybe so. Does that change the fact that you didn't meet it, didn't adhere to the contract, and didn't get "hosed" out of what the contract says? You mention a previous boss set the budget, did he too set the contract?

Just trying to point out there is always more than one way of looking at things.

You guys are absolutely right and I can't believe how wrong I was to think this way. I'm going to take my bonus and treat myself to a McRib and celebrate.

We hand out bonuses at the end of the year based on what our earnings are at the end of the year. It comes down to how much you want to give the goverment or give it to the people that helped you earn it. For me I draw a salary, put the leftovers if any back into the company. If we have a great year then I'll take a bonus at the end.

Congrat's on the sale. What job did you get? If you don't mind me asking.

Unfortunately I won't know until after January, end of our fiscal year.

We are on pace to super-max which would earn me 15% of my salary.

Woodman, lets just say the job is in Illinois, a new building and they started off with giving me 2 orders totaling $430,000.00.
I expect to get a bit more of business from them on all the small stuff they need, maybe another 300K to 400K. That order made my year pretty good !

Okay got mine yesterday. Was the same as last year which is a great thing. I expected much less and some had theirs cut in half. The boss said I'm doing a great job and they wanted to reward me.
