Year end bonuses..... boy they can run the gammit from stupid to crazy. Like my buddy.... he makes a "LOT" of money dealing with aluminum. He buys and sells and never touches a beer can. I remember the year they started(he and a partner). They paid this one secretary/phone girl $18,500. At Xmas time they handed out bonuses.... her's was $20,000. That's right, 20 grand. LOL She's still working for him but now makes way up in the 200,000 range. She still gets year end bonuses. LOL Not bad for a girl with a high school education.

Then you go to work in the real world where bonuses are handed out on a basis of.... if you have 20 people under you...."ONLY ONE" can be the best... ONLY ONE can be next and so on down the line. In that environment there are a lot of pressures and disappointments. The bottom 10 percent will probably loose their job etc etc etc. A lot of pressure to perform. You can't just float along and do your job. You must excell really. Lots of those places out there. My son works at Microsoft. Everyone around you is brilliant and don't punch clocks. They do what it takes or they end up in the bottom 10 percent. They get bonuses..... but they're not crazy.... although they do amount to thousands.

got one last yr, but has nothing really to do with xmas. has to do with how far you go in the playoffs. then the higher-ups "decide" how much you should get..... in MN under the Wilfs we got one every yr but nothing if i can remember under the McCombs reign and i guess i really cant remember before that... alway a nice thing to get but i dont look at it as something that is owed to me. that's what my salary is for. i have heard of folks getting like hundreds of thousands of dollars for bonuses though! Clark Griswald....

Isaiah just answer me this. Is Marion Barber going to step up and be a stud in the absence of Forte? I just picked him up on free agency in fantasy football.

Great timing on this tread, I sit on the other side of the desk. I'm currently going through the financials trying to determine what the profit sharing is going to look like this year. It is people with this attitude that make me think, screw it, they don't appreciate generosity so why do I bother.

If you are in a private company, go back and thank your boss NOW for what you got. If you are in a large corporation, still go and thank your boss and mean it, it might help a little with next year. A bonus is a bonus, in many cases it is money out of someones pocket, only out of the goodness of their heart is it being shared.

My bonus is probably what all you guys make in a year. I usually just laugh at it, then give it to the wife to buy her some new clothes.

Your wife spends more on clothes than I make in an entire year?

I like bonuses, we get them twice a year. Better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Bonuses are nice. Too many times they are given when not deserved and not given when they are. I've got no problem sharing the good times, but if the company had a down year, most people still think they should be getting a bonus. I like what Matt said, bonus aren't owed, they're earned.

Been a tough year, I'll be lucky to end up with the jelly of the month club. I worked harder than last year in which I got a nice bonus, but this year has been tough and I understand that.

    Seriously though...

I will be getting a bonus this year. We get a bonus every year. This year just so happens to be the largest we will be receiving since I've been employed. It's been a pretty good year.

This bonus is a Christmas bonus. We all get the same amount. Everyone gets it. We also have performance bonuses as well.

My "Bonus" is when I am able to work overtime and put some more money in my family's pocket.

At my old job, we would recieve a small "bonus" from each of the bosses. It wasn't a lot, and was there Christmas gift to us.

I just started a new job last week, and I do not expect to recieve anything in a couple weeks, and I'm perfectly fine with that. After all, I have only been to work 8 days so far.

A bonas is to be expected or the boss could have an unfortunate shop accident. You know... like a wrench falls on his head, hammer finds his fingers or a faulty electrically wiring accident.

It's in my contract. Nuff said !!

bonus ? what is this bonus you speak of ?
Like Rick James, I am a sales person...on straight commission.....I make my own bonuses by how much I sell.
Thankfully, I just sold a job that literally doubled my income for the year in one month !! I was a biggie !! ( I think
Woodman130 knows what that is like )
Someone else said it before, everyone should be on a pay fpr performance pay rate for some part of their work lives.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have the unfortunate task of deciding if/when/who/how much bonus to give to everyone for a construction company that builds homes. Don't take a rocket scientist to see that business is not good right now, but I have overheard one of the carpenters talking about how he's spending his bonus this year. It's news that is not pleasant to deliver.

    Year end bonus, what's that?

As far as me giving bonus's out to my employee's, I do. When I wasn't self employed and worked for others I never got year end bonus's. I was fine with that too.
