So went to the shop this morning and decided to go heavier on arrows. I been a light arrow guy all my life mainly because my arrows are short. 26.5" DL and 70 lbs with the vrx 28. I went with the GT genetic chaos 300s. 75 gr insert 100 gr head. 2" blazers cut to 26.75 " total weight 480 gr. A 100 gr jump from where I was. I have not shot it yet because they told me to wait until the epoxy for the inserts dries, so he said this evening. Although it says 5 min epoxy. I will be shooting g5 dead meats and 2" rage. I'm sure the bow will be quieter and I'm not big on speed but I only shoot one pin and limit myself to 25 yard shots. Hope my trajectory is still decent and I can shoot one to that distance. What are you thoughts on this set up?
More than plenty for your new setup. I would guess speeds will stay around 260. Now tune those babies up!
Sounds like a great choice since you want to use expandable heads and only shoot out to 25 yards on hunting shots. No reason not to bump the weight up in that scenario. Should give you a great performing setup, especially should the shot not be quite where you want it. I think the very first thing you're going to notice is how much quieter your bow's shot noise sounds to you.
The first thing I noticed was how much more accurate it is. Noise was definitely quieter but it’s really hard to tell from behind the bow. I had readjust my pin but not by much. The arrow just seemed to fly more true than the lighter one.
Probably closer to what your actual spine needs to be now. Your last setup was too stiff or weak. Arrows will probably tune better now.
Incorrect dynamic spine can cause a TON of fliers. I fought it some with another bow set at 80#. Made me almost mad with the inconsistency. Very noticeable when you start shooting 50, 60, 70yds. Now that I understand my arrows better, my groups stay consistent all the way up.
Well I have never shot past 40 yds in 30 years of bowhunting. Not even practicing. But I can tell just at 25 there is more consistency
Try it. It's amazing what flaws in form you find that help you become that much better within 30 yards. I prefer to practice at 40 and above. I'll never take that shot on an animal but it forces you to hone in that much more. Makes any 20yd shot feel like a chip shot.
I will try it. But I also think that a lot of hunters don't practice enough at 8, 10, 12 ,16, yds etc. those odd close shots are what I get the most.
I pull heavy poundage, with a long draw, so that helps, but a number of years ago I changed up my arrows. 125 grain head. 50 grain brass insert, 15 grain footer… so 190 grains up front. It is amazing how hard it hits and flys through the wind. FOC is really important.
Im changing mine to 95 grain outsert with 125gr slick trick. Arrows cut at 28” victory vap tko .350 spine. 2”blazers. Should be a hair over 500gr. Total Out of Elite E32 at 60lbs. Im very antsy to sight in and also very anxious about how late im trying all new arrows. I guess worst case i go back to my older lighter arrows.
I was shooting for around 430 gr. yet they came in at 480. I was looking to shoot 340 spine but the the tech said to try 300. I like them, I am not used to any arch at 25 yds, so I am really working on getting over that
