Obviously you don't know anything about SCI, or you would have answered the question.

Gotcha, wow, sure would be great to not have anything more to worry about than how people kill game in a legal manor.

I kinda agree with you on that thread too.;)

Its not for me and therefore I don't understand it. As a result, I dislike those who puff their chest out because of it. I worry about its impact on the wild herd. To me hunting is the time put in, the experience, and the journey and in these instances there is none imo. For special circumstances I think that what these high fence operations provide they can be very beneficial, however, for the other 99% of the population I say hunting should be able shooting fish in a barrel to whoever pays enough to throw some lead.

It's not for me, but I think once you get over 1000 acres, it is no longer "shooting fish in a barrel", as that 1000 acres or more is a pretty big chunk of land, and offers the animal a lot of ground to hide. There are some military bases in my area, that have annual hunts on them, because they have to keep the deer population in check, and these bases are tens of thousands of acres fenced in. I know a few people who have gone to these bow hunts, and said they didn't feel like it was a "canned hunt" due to the size of the area.

That being said, paying big bucks to kill a monster buck is just not my thing.

I don't understand it. To a point it seems unethical. For me, hunting is about the experience. Its about putting in countless hours just to get a few minutes out of it. I just couldn't bring myself to do that.

I would not hunt whitetails in a fence. Unless someone shoots one from a pen and acts like they shot a wild deer or some one or a show shoots one and says we worked hard for that deer I don't give a s*** because it doesn't affect me. As long as someone is hunting legally who are we to say what is right or wrong. It gets old hearing you Shot that with a crossbow or a gun instead of a bow so that doesn't count or it isn't real hunting unless you are on public land. I don't care what weapon you use or if it is public, private, leased, or with a guide as long as you do it legally be proud of what you shot. I think jealousy plays a big part of someone getting so mad they would say something to get locked or banned! We should have bigger issues with scumbag poachers than anyone else!!!

Seems wrong to me. Hunting is as natural as breathing for humans. We are carnavores, and have been hunting since we have been on this planet. The antis that say hunting is cruel, or wrong have no idea what they are talking about. It is in our DNA to hunt. The game is free to roam, and leave if they want. They have a CHANCE. Think of the MONSTER deer we have all seen on trail cams that never get harvested. Ghosts of the woods...

Shooting deer in a fence, or pen changes it from hunting to simple bloodsport, and gives the antis the ammo they need IMHO. I would be ashamed to shoot a deer in a fence or pen. I have too much respect for them as the magestic animals they are.

I don't see too much of that in Alabama, I know there are a few places though. It's definitely not for me, paying a ton of money for someone to sit me in and stand and just wait for a deer to show up that's been raised in captivity. For those that can afford it, sure have fun but not me. I'd rather save a bunch of money and put in some hard work and sweat, even if it's just to sit and enjoy nature when the season opens! Of course, a deer down will be the bonus from all the work!

I don't think it's real hunting. It is basically cheating.

I don't think high fence hunting should be called hunting. You don't hunt you just shoot a caged animal. That's like saying picking a live lobster from the store is the same as diving and getting one out of the ocean. There's no sport in it.

It isn't hunting, just shooting. It is bad for hunting.

I had a buck head on at 20 yards. Left turn were my shooting lanes. Right turn safety n freedom. He took the right fork in the road that day (for him). Thats part of hunting. Fair chase or not at all for me. You can't antlers......

So, I have the opportunity to hunt 9,000 acres and it is not fenced. The deer on this place routinely spend their entire life on roughly the same 500 or 600 acres adjoining the place where they were born (trail cams indicate this). If a fence gets put up around the perimeter of the place, can I expect them to walk by my stand? They don't do that now but I'd like to know if that would increase my odds. Additionally, there is a 1500 acre ranch that releases game birds for hunting not far away. Does this fall in the same category as fenced in deer? If the birds fly off the place and I kill them on the adjoining land have I done an unethical thing? Have any of you hunted birds on a place like that but say hunting a high fence ranch is not hunting?

Do those of you that say it is not hunting to hunt one of those places feel the same way about paying for a guided hunt with an outfitter that has been watching the game all year and knows approximately where they will come out to feed or the trails they go to bed on?
