There are birds all over this 120 acre property. Why I haven't been able to get a single Tom to commit is beyond me. Here is where I parked this morning.
This may be the most bizarre spring ever.... I packed it in. It never did stop raining. Had a flat tire when I got back to the truck. On the way to the tire shop.... Sighs....
Going to hit it again in the morning. Mentally I have 1 or 2 hunts left in me unless something changes. Going to try a different property tomorrow. I've killed a lot of birds on this property. We once refereed to the property as the "money spot". Last year I hunted it once, didn't hear or see any birds or much sign at that... It seems years past this property was the best with lots of rain. Hoping that holds true. Its a gamble, The field access road is a MUD road or MUD pit.... Not sure I will even be able to get in there. I also don't know what if any crops are planted. If it is wheat it will be a bust as it will be over 2ft tall.
Good luck. It's been raining here quite a bit too, and now they are showing a decent chance of rain about every day next week. I'm ready for it to warm up and dry out a little bit.
In the blind. Birds are gobbling. They are all away around me. Closest one may be within 150 yards. This may be the day!
Well that sucked... I am cursed.... Didn't see a single bird and I have a immaculate view. I set on a hump with a cut corn field on my front side and a grass field on my back side. I had a pond out front and was surround by timber. Didn't see a single bird all morning. To add insult when I got back in the truck to leave, I drove down the field access road 1/4, there stood 6 toms and two hens just on the other side of the fence. On top of that they all gobbled at me. Like they were laughing at me... Now in my younger years I'd probably got out the truck and let them have a tube full of bird shot! WTH!!!! Did walk the property and was not impressed with the amount of sign I saw.... May have to try yet another property this evening.
I moved to the property that I killed one of my birds last year. First time I've been here this year. I did see a hen on the way in and had a 5 o'clock goggle. I am changing to a bottle is half empty mentality.
Hunted until last light to see if I could put some birds to bed. Didn't hear a single gobble. I thought surely just after 5 PM is was going to happen. I had a bird sounding off every 5 min get closer and closer. He never did show himself. I had a lonely him roll through at around 6:30. Last two hunts I have found cracked turkey eggs. Looked to me a predator had got to them before they could hatch due to the location of the eggs.
Where are all the birds? I'm packing it in early today... not a gobble, cluck or feather anywhere. This year's season has officially frustrated me to the limit!
Looks like one beard to me. I think he has a breast feather hanging loose on the far side. Cool picture though.
The other angles definitely change my mind. Looks like he definitely has something funky going on with that beard. Cool pics!
