Anybody see that yesterday? More impressive than the fight was the player from Xavier commenting in the post game press conference! If a fight were to break out in a game that I was coaching and, following the game, one of my players said in a public news conference, "We are gangsters on this team" that player would no longer be allowed anywhere around my team. Being a self proclaimed thug/gangster is NOT something to be proud of. Instead of being a role model, you're choosing to belittle yourself and your team with such a label. Hopefully that clown from Xavier won't be near the court again anytime soon.
I thought coach Cronin's comments were good. Xavier's players comments were rediculus, wow "that's who we are and what we do, zip them up" classy!
Tu Holloway will not be dismissed from the team, as sad as it is...because they are a top 10 caliber team and he is by far their best player. Yancy Gates is gone from Cincy, as several others from both teams likely will be. I'll gladly come back here and eat crow if necessary, but Id lay money on the fact that Tu Holloway will have "learned his lesson" sit a few games, and be back on the court in no time.
I thought the cincinatti coach made a great post game interview. Partially to save his own tail, but also to send a message to the team, school, and fans. I give him lots of credit for how he handled such an embarrassing situation. The Xavier player interviews, not so much haha! It's a shame when we have "gangsters" in a position to be influencing young athletes as role models.
I agree. Very good response to the situation and seemed genuine. p.s. That one dude from cincy really dotted that guy from Xavier. wow
The whole situation is what is wrong with NBA basketball and is obviously starting to spill over into college. If I were the president of either school both programs would have a lot of explanation to do as well as a few public apologies. And that is assuming I let them stay on the team. Cincy's coach did have a great speech but it was all to save face. I read to today that Yancy was only suspended 6 games. He should be off the team. The 2 xavier players doing the press conference should be off the team. Then the video of the fight be reviewed and anyone that just comes running in to fight should be off the team. All this did was to show the rest of the league that this type of behavior has basically no consequences except good press. On a side note, anyone watch the IU game?!?! Easily one of the best, most competitive sporting events I've EVER seen. In the next few years, IU will be a solid force to be reckoned with. Crean is a great coach and has excellent recruiting. The players they have lined up for the next years are first class and no the thug life they have in cincy.
It's a different culture that you "Honkies" wouldn't understand..... We Gangstas and Thugs can't allow them be disrespecting us.... They be lucky we didn't really get to "zip 'em up." . . . . . . . . . These attitudes are exacty WHY I can't hardly stand basketball in general, and football is getting there...
Isn't it the truth..... a different culture. So Yates gets 6 games, some one, some 2 etc. Now they're all posturing and twittering on how bad they are and don't disrespect me. Thugs..... just gutter trash waiting for a cell in some prison. They never learn.. If they wanted to make a statement they would have just flat banned a couple and said see ya dipsh[[[[[.
Wahoo, those comments by that player were absolutely horrible. First off, I would ban my players from using Twitter to comment about anything about the teams business. Kids these days are tweeting about things in public with no regard to the consequences.
They don't care.... to them it's all about THEM. No one else in the world is worth spit. They'd shoot you in a minute if it would get them some "RESPECT". LOL Idiots. We need a purging to save humanity. What should really happen is these fools should have to make the same SAT scores that anyone trying to go there for an education has to make. I don't care if you're a fantastic shooter and can blind side some dude when he's not looking. If you can't say a complete sentence.... you don't belong in college on my dollar.
Blount was suspended from the Oregon football team for throwing a sucker punch. Yancy should be out of college basketball. So should the moron that kicked the victim while he was down on the floor. Admitted thugs going to school for free. And I'm paying 20K out of my pocket for my son to go to college. What a crock
AWFUL. The players involved should to dismissed from school not to mention the team. 1 game to 6 games. At the end of the season that don't mean squat... The NCAA is failing, hands down. Ditto on the Blount post.
For sure, the kid who threw the first shove, Dez Wells, was on Twitter minutes after the game was over commenting on it. The faceless anonymity of social media creates an environment where anyone can feel much more confident than they really are. Then, when you have guys with obvious insecurities like collegiate basketball players, it just creates a breeding ground for what happened in the game. Of course, like the second guy said, it wasn't their fault at all! It was the media's for building up the rivalry. Sheesh.
First off, the comments were about as dumb as the brawl. Where the hell are the coaches? You usually have about 30 minutes before you go in front of the media. Either instruct the players on what to say, or don't have them out there. Holloway comments were a terrible decision. The players certainly acted poorly in this game, but what were the coaches and officials doing? Why was Holloway still in the game at the end? Why didn't the officials stop the game by giving a technical after he incessantly taunted the Cincy player on the way back down the court? It wasn't like this popped up out of nowhere. Terrible decisions by everyone involved. Players, coaches, officials...everyone. But on a positive note for some, this gives them a reason to make it racial. Its like golf fans have somehow become basketball fans all of a sudden. They can point and say "See! I told you!"
