Well dress clothes and all rolled into the property and got cards pulled and batteries changed....deer already on cameras....lots of does still and no mature bucks...do have a couple regular camera cards to pull that I suspect may have some goodies.

If you have the does, the bucks will come. I live in the mountains in PA, and we always have lots of does around and never any bucks until 10/31. Year after year that's when they show up and there's usually a good one. I usually save it for my 16-year-old granddaughter who we've been raising since she was 2-weeks old. She started hunting with me at the age of 7 with a crossbow. She has always shot better than I ever could.
I'm headed back to Ohio on Friday morning. I have 2 cameras that I need to change the SD cards on and I'm hoping they have something new.

Oh for sure, it is just an odd year on my place given all the chaos...normally already have one or two that summered and stayed but not this year. Time will change all of that.

I could not find the photos. Imagine that, I started taking trail cam photos when we had to make our own cameras. Two of my buddies and I made the first trail cams we had ever seen. Bought a "brain box" from some genius in Arkansas and had to solder the wires to one of the first digital olympus cameras and then mount it all in metal first aid boxes that we cut openings in for the sensor and camera lens and sealed glass in with silicone.

So, that is a long winded way of telling you that I have a very disorganized mass of somewhere around 1.79 billion pictures and really only pay much attention to the last year or two. lol. I did get a few laughs and a few "I wonder what ever happened to that deer?", moments while looking though. I also got to relive a few amazing hunts.

I may dust off the rust of that first hunt tomorrow....always takes long to get in that groove of setting up camera arm and everything and getting back into the groove....cold front but NO bucks worth shooting. If presented a chance I might shoot a doe honestly....will keep everyone posted if I decide to.

I was hoping to get out last night but my daughter turns 8 today and we had a last minute birthday dinner with grandparents last night. The low tonight is supposed to be 30 here with the barometer continually increasing in to mid day tomorrow.

That's a shooter right there. I hope you get a chance to see him.

Slight change of plans, winds are not shifting and now are not predicted to be enough easterly for my easiest access point stand - tomorrow is east so the plan shifts and work will have me all day LOL

My little guy was a determined arrow last night. I was pulling the back of his shirt back to draw, he would say “SHOOT” and I’d shove him off to the target. It was 30 yards so he had a good quarter mile run last night before bed. He slept good.

My six year old for the first time asked if he would ever go hunting when he gets big.....that night I started designing a blind build I need to just commit to. Goal is next fall he sits with me in the blind some....we might have a hunter after all. First sign of interest.

I think I mentioned I live in the mountains before. I was looking out in the backyard after dinner to see if any deer were outback eating acorns and there was a small 8 point 20 yards from my backdoor under a white oak munching away. There was a few does too but he wasn't paying them any mind. I tried to show my granddaughter, but she asked me how big it was and she wasn't interested in looking. I guess taking her to Ohio several times ruined that. Her biggest buck she ever got out there was a 135" eleven point when she was 11.

    Bad news guys.

Had an 8 at full draw for like 30 seconds waiting for him to pop into a window. He turned back so I went to let off and I probably had it gripped too tight with adrenaline and rolled the string off the cam. IMG_6074.jpeg IMG_6082.jpeg IMG_6087.jpeg

    Not mad, just disappointed

Awww man that sucks. When that adrenaline stops, we need to quit but that's why we keep getting after them. Hopefully, you can get it back in operation quickly.

Sat with my 9 year old this evening for her first official hunt. No deer but still had a great time watching squirrels and whispering about all the worries of a 9 year old lol. 5 minutes after we get back to house I have several deer right in front of the blind we were in. All I could tell her is that’s hunting.

IMG_6088.jpeg Had some time to think about it on the way home. It’s the original string from when I got it, Matthew’s v3 from 2021 but I don’t shoot a ton so I think the string was fine. My release was still closed, so I don’t think I accidentally hit the trigger. I was in a sitting position shooting 90 degrees to the left of me. I was trying really hard to let down quietly. The bow has 85% let off so it’s a really violent draw down when you aren’t ready for it. I think I was just holding it too tight and twisted the bow with my left hand enough that when it came off the let off on the cam to full tension it rolled out of the string grove and that was all she wrote.

The deer didn’t spook too bad. I watched them for another 10 minutes within 100 yards. Since I was there and had some action I sat until dark and had another buck come in from the right of me but didn’t get a good look at him through the brush.

Here is a picture of my set up tonight. It was a really good one.

There were two deer standing in the road in front of my house when I pulled into my driveway tonight.
