Thanks guys! This buck took a 45 min nap 10 yards from us last year, so my son named him Nightmare. He was our #1 on the urban property. Last night, we had a 15 min stare down with a young 9 before a 6 point and Nightmare came through the fence gap. We were able to hold our composure while they worked around our right side and out in front of the blind at 13 yards. The young 9's head was in the way of my shot, but as soon as he lifted up I let her fly. We waited 20 mins before creeping up the hill and he was down just out of sight from the blind. It was a super cool experience for my son and I, but my daughter was mad because she's usually my good luck charm for bucks.
That's awesome man, holy cow those kids are getting big. When did we get old Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
so incredibly happy for you man!!! Absolutely too cool man and as always keep rocking as a father man!!!
Update on my property that was put through disturbance chaos this summer lol….it continues to calm down. Hard horn shift has seen some bucks come back but only one that even breaks 100 inches that is I believe a four year old at oldest or three year old if I have his old photos right. Sadly this seems to be a common genetic trait with one of the most famous ones being Mr Piggy a buck that hit like eight years old before disappearing and I swear he never hit higher than 100 inches. still tons of time and for a small property the does are everywhere thankfully.
Seems in the zipcode Josh. Did you use the string and tape measure method? My wife got me a little digital roller for my birthday for scoring, I'm hoping to get to use it soon.
Same here Josh. I think your score looks good, and not to sound too self-important, my opinion matters.
Last evening was my first opening day hunt in over 30 years. It was way too hot, but I went. As expected, the movement was in the last 40 minutes of light and it was fun to get out and have some action. I did pass a beautiful young 6 x 6 that probably pushed 160's but was only 3.5 yrs old and could be a giant in a couple of years. I had him at 18 yards with two does. It is even hotter today, so I am not going to burn out a spot for 30 minutes or less of deer activity. Just too much of a crap shoot and we have drastically cooler temps coming in over the weekend. I hope to have an evening sit on Sunday.
Wow, a 3.5 year old pushing 160". That buck is going to be a toad. You must have some real good genetics in your area.
Oh how I missed being on your team brother!! Let the passing giants posts start..... LOL Love ya brother and sounds like a phenomenal young deer! Next time I do an Iowa trip I'm definitely gonna bring some local beers and share one with you!
