Headed to New Orleans for a quick work trip tomorrow and hoping to get home on Thursday night, Friday night at the latest. Just found out that grandma and grandpa bought us all tickets to go see a live Rudolph performance on Saturday afternoon... Wife says "well everyone but you, they figured you would rather go do something else..." so I have a time slot in the stand on Saturday for an evening sit. Mid day high is 13* and we have 8 inches of snow on the ground. The local snowmobile club trail goes through the center of our property so I am guessing there will be some 2 strokes screaming past but I am looking forward to it. Going to get all of my batteries for my heated shirt, pants, and socks charged up... it's going to be chilly. I have not hunted December much, any tips tricks or advice I would gladly take it.
Get as close to the bedding area as you can. When it's that cold they don't travel far. Also, if you can identify their food source with that much snow on the ground, that's a plus. I shot one of my biggest bucks, a 12 point that was over 160" on 12/26/2020 and 14 degrees that morning. Had about 6" of snow. He was headed back to his bedding right at daybreak. Good Luck!
Concur, bedding or food - the inbetween I rarely go at this point. Unless you have bedding tucked right on or near food.
Best believe I will be ending strong this season. I plan for many more hunts before the end of December. I had alot of activity with shooters last december
This next full moon will be bringing any remaining unbred does in heat. Still, plenty of season left.
I was planning on getting out this week but my sister's husband passed away unexpectedly at 65. We are all in a bit of shock and I am helping her with arrangements and everything that goes with it. I am thankful that our new home is only 20 minutes from her instead of the hour and a half prior. At this point, I may be shooting my doe after gun seasons wrap up. I do still plan on shooting a doe if you guys don't start piling them up. Another reminder that tomorrow is not promised and you don't want to live with regrets of spending too much time in a tree when you may end up wishing for more time with a loved one. Stay safe and go kill some deer so that I can sit at home in front of a fire with a nice bourbon and fondle my guitars and hold my wife, or vice-versa.
wise words my man - far far too many men especially will climb a tree at the expense of time with loved ones. Prayers to your family my man!
Matter of fact that is the heart of the story of my buck this year that will be released Christmas Day. I’ve hinted at some of it here, but this was a season I didn’t even think I’d hunt likely till November or even later…with wife’s health issues it changed everything. makes you realize how worthless and trivial all this hunting stuff truly is. I’ll try to remember to share the link for the story when it goes live for any curious to watch it.
Sorry to hear about your BIL passed. That’s way too young. Prayers for your sister and family. Good for you helping her through it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've been out hunting every day except for Tuesday, for the past 10 days. I'm just not seeing any bucks that I'm ready to pull the trigger on. We still have 9 more days of our gun season. I've been taking both weapons just in case I need to reach out and touch one I can't pass on. Hope everyone is doing well.
Pulling my gear together for a hunt this afternoon. 8 inches of now on the ground and going to be 10 degrees at dusk. Next weekend’s temperatures going to be a touch above 0* getting down to the wire for me but still grinding!
Im prepping to head out. Had alot of activity where I will be this afternoon. Had 5 bucks in 1 video and several other deer all in daylight this morning. I can only hope they come back through. I am changing up my access to this spot and also will be taking a risk hunting it on a north wind. I will take my time getting in and hopefully pick the right tree to offset my scent downwind down a drainage.
Man, it was cold out there this morning. It was 3 degrees when I went out. I ended up only seeing a spike and some does and fawns.
I hear you, even though I'm a Minnesota kid. I hate being cold in the stand. I am working with our family group to get half a dozen to a dozen amish built enclosed blinds. Id like to have 3 or 4 with bow windows in them for these late season opportunities.
I have decided that I am too old for the cold. I just bought two Redneck blinds that will have dedicated LP tanks and buddy heaters for anytime it gets the least bit chilly. I used to think that people were crazy for going south for the winter. Now, I think I might be slightly nuts for staying in the cold. I see a month or two near an ocean each winter in my future. lol Glad to see some of you still putting up a good fight! I will get back out after our gun seasons wrap up and fill a doe tag.
I know it’s expensive but the Sitka fanatic suit and ventlite boots will have you sweating trust me I know.
My brother owns the 40 acres on the bottom left. This year his neighbor to the East put in a food plot and tower blind along the property line. The neighbor is also selling 15 hunts a year on their 40 acres. How would you handle this?
