Amen, to that. I'm headed back to Ohio Friday morning and will hunt thru Monday morning. I still don't have any mature buck's daylighting but that should be changing any day.
No dice last night. Got some family and church things clear through Sunday. Might not get out for a doe until mid week. Someone else get out and put something down!!
I am headed to Colorado hiking for a few days to give Ty a fighting chance at our doe challenge. Good luck everyone!!!
Love it, competition inside of competition! So a little bit more about yesterday. I rode in on my bike about a mile and a half and put myself in position of a 50 yard wide funnel close to a few known bedding areas on the way back from a good sized food plot. I wanted to try and catch a buck on his way back to his bedroom hoping he was up late with the rain we had. No such luck, didn't see a deer at all. After getting out for the morning I went and did a camera check on our home camera on the Cuddelink with 18 cameras connected. Deer movement pretty much stopped from 10/23-10/29. From 18 cameras, a cell camera and a few others I had maybe 15 buck pictures over 6 days on 450 acres. Only a couple of them in daylight. The stand I hunted Sunday night last weekend "slingshot" the buck with the cool looking G2's came through about 2 hours after shooting light so I know he's hanging out close, we had him there in daylight 7:30am last Friday morning as well. I spent some time on the GIS map with the 2 foot contours on looking for any little pocket that he might be holed up in. I picked out one spot. Yesterday afternoon I spent an hour back out in the area we think he's hanging out and tried coming up with a travel pattern. I found one bed under an oak tree on a small nub that for sure is a buck bed used recently but the lack of sign I don't think it's a heavily used bed. About 30 yards from there I found a tree shredded from the bottom to about chest high, other than that the sign is pretty minor. Interesting scenario with the property south that has 65 Acres of corn that is still standing. I am not sure if that is playing a role in movement this late in October this far north in MN. They gun hunt and my guess is they will have it harvested next week right before the gun season opens. Below is where we think he is primarily hanging out as of the weekend based on times of the couple pictures we got of him. Wider view then the topo of the 40 If you guys have any thoughts ideas or suggestions I'm all ears.
My truck is loaded up and ready to head to Ohio in the morning. I've mentioned to some of you that I live in the mountains. I was looking out back earlier this afternoon, and saw does running around. I kept watching and then I saw why they were running. It was a pretty good 8 point for PA. At least a 120". Definitely, got my heart pumping. I rarely hunt here at home and if I do, I'm taking my granddaughter. I hope that buck sticks around so I can see if I can get her on it when I get back next week.
My yard decoy was getting some action too! We were out there grilling and playing ball and this little guy just strolled up at 17 yards.
Spent the evening in a ground blind with a decoy trying to get my target buck to move a little faster. I have seen him get out of his bed but never closes the distance before dark. Tonight was no different. Tomorrow morning starts my love hate relationship with the rut and I will be sitting in the back 3rd of my woods surrounded by corn on 3 sides. Good luck to all! Change of plans today. I’m in a new stand this morning testing a crossbow out for work. I’m out of my comfort zone but hopefully I see a doe pass by. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Just went through the LFTS thread, slugger... desperately hunting without TP reported 4 deer, no bucks, arrow sent!
Looks like slugger has one strung up in the garage from this afternoon based on the LFTS thread. Nice shooting!
Boy, I hope I don’t regret this decision. I just had a 3.5 year old 11 point come by at 20 yards. I’ve never seen or have any pictures of him. I hope the buck makes it another year. He was definitely a 3.5 year old. Slender neck and long legs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
been there, has some years and others not. It’s part of the journey! has @Slugger saif anything at all since the live thread post?
I’m back up for the afternoon. Only saw a spike and 2 fawns this morning. Hopefully it’s more eventful. My Reveal hasn’t sent me any pictures here in 2 days. Hoping for the best. Good luck if you’re out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
