That video clip is awesome. He sure did the mule kick when you hit him. Great shot on a great buck. That feeling never gets old. My 80 year old dad is still going out archery hunting. He now enjoys taking his grandkids more but still gets after it in Ohio.
Congratulations Ty! I have a buck playing chicken with me. Last night he came by my stand a half hour after I got out of it at dark. This is 3 times now. Any day now he will be coming out during the daylight hours. I am on the fence though about shooting him. We'll see. I just know some bigger boys exist on this new property.
And this is when I start to second guess myself for taking a buck opening day. We just went to the main farm on Sunday and hung this rope. He's the biggest of 6 visitors so far.
You can always second guess yourself but, that buck may never daylight for an opportunity. He's definitely a mature buck.
Out in the stand. We’ve had rain for the last two days, finished up at about 10pm. Rode my mountain bike a mile and a half to get into the spot that I blew up my bow about a month ago. Ironically they called me over the weekend to let me know the string was in so I dropped it off Monday morning and they said it would be done yesterday. I stop in after work yesterday and it was not done. Plan B dust of the Matthew’s switchback last night in the rain. Put 6 arrows through it and it’s solid at 30. Shooting light is 27 minutes from now. Let the good times roll!
No deer this morning. Going to sit until 10 and then need to get to work. Saw a nice group of turkeys come through.
Well fellas...not sure I said something but I shot that buck nearly two and half hours before darkness...once I was able to review footage I 100% assumed he was dead running and not hearing anything assumed he ran up the plot corridor and died quietly as no sticks or brush would be hit. Being color blind around 6PM I made the decision to just get down with good light and check arrow and follow blood the twenty or thirty yards up to be able to look down much of that corridor...this was a mistake because I should have STAYED put as there was nothing gained other than costing me does to shoot. I left my bow to mark last blood about thirty yards away when I couldn't see anything up the corridor. Grab stuff out of tree and head to truck to unload and then grab a light just incase the track takes that long as sunset was half hour away. This is nuts but gone maybe fifteen minutes.....turn to enter the small plot system by stand and greeted by two does right in front of stand and a third one is literally two feet FROM MY BOW just chowing on the rye.....unbelievable. The deer push off no blowing but clearly disturbed by me LOL....while tracking the deer I got walked up on by two deer from the other way lol.....again no blowing but turned for sure and left of course. All that to say, gonna give that stand a go again tonight and hope they seem to not have cared much like it seemed...deer on cell cam forty yards from stand the last two mornings so they aren't avoiding the spot. Here's to hopefully 50 points more and earning my reduction zone second buck tag to chase two VERY specific deer or a surprise giant.
Got Benor scored and entered. I had zero clue he would break the 130. Measured three times. Grossed 136 and change
When I looked at the mass and tine lengths, I guessed he was 130"+. Great looking buck and I would take him all day long.
His length was better than I imagined and his right base was bigger due to his brow essentially started at the base on that side too. His beam and spread I knew were nothing special and figured much smaller
