There were animal rights people who were doing this in Wisconsin with our recent elk drawing. Whatever, I guess. I'm wondering why he would still buy the license though? Or if your name is drawn do you have to buy the license ?
I would assume that if you are drawn and don't buy the tag goes to another lottery entrant. The state wants its $$$. That would also help preclude stunts like this. But this guy seems to be a true believer so I have little doubt he will purchase the tag just to keep it from going to a hunter. The funny thing is the money coming in from the license will end up benefiting sportsmen anyway. So everybody is a winner. Except for him if he gets eaten.
You pay for the tag up front in Wyoming when you make your application. The fee is refunded minus the preference point amount when you do not draw.
Kinda an odd way of doing it. You'd think it would be easier to put a time limit on how long after the drawing they have to buy their actual license. Say after 2 weeks they don't buy it the tag goes to the next name drawn.
It prevents problems as people will apply for tags they can’t afford thinking it’s a long shot anyway. It will add delays waiting for two weeks for some to decline a tag ...next thing you know your on a waiting list for a month and a half. I wish all states had upfront tags included in the application, just makes it simpler for everyone to plan .
